We're looking for ambitious, driven, self-starters who want to be on the leading edge of innovation in online media and technology. This position is located in Santa Monica, CA.
Responsibilities:
- Manage a team of site editors and subject-matter experts to meet production goals in multiple categories
- Manage writer and editor recruitment and application reviewing process
- Maintain and communicate with a large and ever-changing database of freelance content providers as you guide and assist them through the content creation and editorial process
- Review content production for quality, ensuring we warn, guide or remove poor contributors as well as identifying and rewarding our best ones
- Create and regularly update site and section editorial guidelines
- Work extensively with content management systems and interactive tools
- Understand and implement SEO best practices to edit and create valuable online content
- Collaborate closely with a high-energy team of dedicated editors to grow content and meet other common content goals
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, communications or related field preferred
- 3-5 years editorial experience with online and print publications
- Outstanding writing and editing skills
- Proficiency with AP style or other style manuals
- Efficiency, accuracy, strong organizational skills, dependability and a keen eye for detail
- Strong communication skills
- Understanding of traditional journalism and how it fits into the evolving paradigms of the Web
- Clear understanding of online publishing and the competitive landscape
- Ability to work with freelance writers, make assignments and provide feedback
- Ability to successfully juggle several projects simultaneously while working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Familiarity with AP style or other publishing style manuals
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience collaborating in a team environment
- Solid Microsoft Office skills
- Knowledge of Web publishing tools, such as blog software, a plus
- Knowledge of garden, legal, and family and relationship content a big plus
