Editorial Director Etsy
THIS JOB HAS EXPIRED Etsy is seeking an Editorial Director who is creatively-gifted and business-minded to lead a team of writers, editors and producers. Your voice and editorial vision is authentic, fun, moving and relevant to our time. You are also strategic, building an operation that can scale globally to help drive a growing business. This full-time position is based in Brooklyn, NY and reports to the Communications Director.
About the Communications Team
Communications is an interdisciplinary team responsible for public relations, brand copywriting, social media, and advocacy as well as traditional editorial. Our mission is to amplify the story of Etsy ? the company, the marketplace and the movement. We do that by focusing on the stories of real people who make up our community.
About the Job
Etsy?s founders were visionary about storytelling and invested early in content. Over the years, we built a talented staff who created high-quality, multimedia stories. But Etsy has grown rapidly to more than 60 million monthly visitors in over 200 countries. Our vertical, magazine-style approach no longer scales. It?s time for a new content strategy that is grounded in the needs of buyers, applicable in both emerging and mature Etsy markets, and integrated with our product vision.
Develop and communicate a global content strategy as Etsy grows.
Supervise editors, copywriters, social media specialists and video producers.
Oversee content development including short-form copywriting, on-site curation, branded social media and long-form video and prose for consumers and press.
Set key metrics, track how editorial content is used, report on insights and adapt.
Set excellent standards for voice, quality and consistency, and maintain best practices with seller education and customer support.
Partner with product and engineering managers to integrate stories visibly on Etsy?s front-end and build back-end curation and publishing tools.
Work closely with PR so content supports their goals and reaches key audiences.
Identify and build strategic partnerships outside Etsy.
Manage editorial budget for freelancers, events and professional development.
Cultivate a network of peers and publicly tell the story of our content strategy.
The right person for this job can credibly oversee the work of creatives and partner with business leads across the company. For candidates looking to leave the media world, we need to hear how you?d translate that approach for a tech and commerce company.
You will be successful in this role if you:
Have 10 years+ progressive experience in content development, 6+ years as a manager
Have successfully developed and implemented content strategies in the past
Have run or observed a global operation
Are familiar with the web and mobile product development process
Can thrive and create your own structure in a fluid work environment
Can lead wordsmiths but have also commissioned video production and editorial photography
Bonus points if you:
Have worked in a commerce environment
Have started your own microenterprise
Etsy is the marketplace we make together. We have 25 million members in over 200 countries. In 2012, our sellers grossed more than $850 million in sales. Our mission is to reimagine commerce to build a more fulfilling and lasting world.
We're empowered and expected to be ourselves, share our ideas and figure out what we can each do to keep Etsy evolving. We have full company-paid benefits, including family and domestic partner benefits, humane working hours, couches, quiet spaces, lunch twice a week and handmade desks.
We're growing rapidly and are well-funded with a proven business model and established revenue to help us continue serving our community.
If you're interested in joining the team, please send us your resume and some relevant work samples. You won?t be surprised to hear, though, that we won?t consider them without a cover letter ? this is a Communications position, after all. Let us know how you fit the bill for each of our requirements above. Etsy is a place that values individuality and variety, so use your judgment and write to us in your own voice. If you have an interesting side project or online presence we?d love to hear about it.
