Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist

Job Summary:
The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist will maintain safe operations by assisting the EHS Manager with conducting inspections; conducting safety and health training; investigating accidents; writing or editing policies and improving safety preparedness.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Write and revise health and safety procedures
Maintain training records within tracking system
Develops safety preparedness by developing and presenting safety training and assessments, including:
Personal protective equipment
Evacuation
Falls
Machine Safety
Writing safety procedures
Handling, storing, and disposing of hazardous materials
Maintaining a safety reference library
Fulfilling requests for information
Maintaining operator certification currency and records.
Investigating and documenting accidents, injuries, and hazards
Assist site in Regulatory audits from Fire, County, State and Federal agencies
Assists the EHS Manager in resolving emergencies by responding to warnings and calls; calling for additional help.
Guide the Safety Committee as a technical expert on a monthly basis with safety ideas, awareness and focus
Establish Safety Incentives and a Behavioral Based Safety Program
Formation and Lead of Ergonomics team
Maintain Chemical Inventory and MSDS
Assist in financial planning data by collecting, summarizing, and consolidating safety and health data; recommending expenditures.
Prepares safety and hazard reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends
Maintains OSHA log
Perform Respirator Fit Tests
Work with consultants on IH monitoring needs
Work closely with EHS Manager on special projects or needs at other locations.
Work with Human Resources on Workman?s Compensation and Medical provider listing
Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor Degree in Environmental, Safety, Occupational Health or related fields
3 - 5 year(s) experience in a Research and Development or Manufacturing environment in the EHS realm
Previous experience writing safety policies and procedures desired
Experience with contractor safety
Experience working with consultants or regulatory agencies a plus
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
Excellent organization and multi-tasking skills required
Ability to travel between Pittsburgh and Mt. Pleasant facilities
