Job Qualifications (basic job description):
The Aurora Avionics team is a high performing, flexible team that develops and tests industry-leading avionics solutions for the unmanned aerial vehicle industry. The Avionics Engineer is a key contributor to continuing the success.
The Avionics Engineer is responsible to develop, design, and test avionic component and harness designs. The typical candidate will have a degree from a top tier engineering school, own their work all the way from concept to flight testing, and collaborate with smart, highly-motivated people.
The roles of the AV Engineer is the following:
Provide skills, experience and attitude that fits the task or projects.
Reflects the Aurora core values.
Utilize flexibility, resourcefulness and initiative to ensure timely completion of the work assigned.
Independently develop hardware designs, tests, and other artifacts that meet the objectives of the program.
Identify, develop and implement improvements to the ARG tools and procedures that improve quality, increase efficiency and improve transparency of the HW development activities.
The AV Engineer may be called upon to perform other duties to support all the other areas of the business.
This position is a "hands on" activity with plenty of responsibility for the successful delivery of leading-edge aircraft projects. The desired approach is to integrate existing commercially available hardware that meets rigorous environmental standards for aircraft. The environment is fast-paced and requires the application of critical thinking in demanding situations.
Frequently this position will require detailed interaction with supplier and customers in order to ensure compliance to requirements and a successful design. This position may require overtime and occasional travel to meet program objectives.
The expectations are the following:
Develop hardware modules and systems with minimum supervision.
Own the requirement all the way through integration and test onto the aircraft.
Document the requirements, design, test plan, and corrective actions as appropriate to the situation.
Complete the projects and tasks assigned. This will typically require a solid understanding of the requirements and expectation for quality & due dates.
Adhere to the Aurora HR handbook.
Ensure an appropriate level of communication with the team lead and functional manager.
Submit a weekly report of planned vs. actual accomplishments.
Solicit and provide constructive feedback.
Minimum Requirements (education and experience):
Bachelor's degree from a four year accredited university in Engineering or computer hardware. Preferably in EE.
Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality engineering solutions to complex technical problems on-time and within budget.
Demonstrated knowledge of power/control system electronic theory to design or validate electronic control systems.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, MS Project & MS Visio.
Ability to support multiple activities with competing priorities and deadlines.
Demonstrated ability to author requirements, design documents and test plans that prove compliance to higher-level specifications.
Master's degree in Engineering.
Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research/development.
Design of complex power & distributed control systems in avionics.
Design of ruggedized, fully-enclosed power or computing electronics.
Familiarity with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) methodologies.
Proficiency with the following software - DOORs, Mentor Graphics VESYS (Schematic Design tool).
