About the Job
We are currently seeking an Engineer for Nexant?s Madison, WI or Des Moines, IA location. This position will serve as a technical specialist in commercial and industrial processes and systems to support our energy auditing projects in our Energy Efficiency and Carbon Management Division. Successful candidates must demonstrate ability to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the position. Our clients include public agencies, investor-owned utilities administering ratepayer-funded energy efficiency programs, energy end users, and energy service companies.
Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct site visits and identify energy efficiency measures. Conduct energy audits (both scoping- and investment-grade) at medium to large commercial and industrial facilities to identify and recommend energy efficiency improvements
Build spreadsheets and perform energy efficiency calculations for at medium to large commercial and industrial facilities. Measures may include HVAC, compressed air, refrigeration, data centers, process heating, plastic molding or forming, motors, boilers, pumping, food processing and lighting
Create energy efficiency computer models using industry standard software (eQUEST, EnergyPro, Trane Trace, etc) to quantify energy impacts of recommendations
Support Nexant?s utility programs under the direction of the engineering managers. Provide technical assistance to support energy efficient project implementation
Write technical reports. Produce high quality deliverables (reports and spreadsheets). Maintain quality control of deliverable products, demonstrating technical excellence, objectivity, and clarity while maintaining project schedules
Conduct measurement and verification tasks as warranted
Meet overall project budgets and profitability targets
Bachelor?s or Master's degree in mechanical or similar engineering preferred; EIT preferred or intent to pursue
A strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems and principals, motors, thermodynamics, fluids, and heat transfer
0-2 years of experience in a related field
Experience in the following areas is a plus:
o Industrial systems and equipment
o Understanding of HVAC, electrical, building automation/controls
o Commissioning and/or retro-commissioning test procedures, schematic diagrams, and specifications
o Building and energy modeling/simulation tools (eg Trace, DOE-2, eQuest)
o Calculation of energy savings for commercial HVAC and/or industrial process energy efficiency improvements.
Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deliverable deadlines and budgets
Ability to quickly learn complex technical subjects
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel and Outlook
Excellent writing, interpersonal, presentation, and analytical skills
