Job Description
At Synthetic Genomics, Inc., we are dedicated to developing and commercializing genomic-driven solutions to address global challenges. We are currently seeking an Engineer - Production Systems to join our Synthetic Genomics Sciences team in a fast-growing, dynamic and collaborative team in La Jolla, CA.
Engineer in a multidisciplinary technical team designing, implementing and scaling-up robust, economic and innovative processes related to photosynthetic microbes.
Required Skills
The Engineer uses professional concepts to solve scientific problems in creative and practical ways that could influence the company?s direction and opportunities
Exercises consistently good judgment within defined practices and policies in selecting methodologies and techniques for achieving goals and solutions; solicits input to obtain support from the appropriate management personnel.
Design, test, and improve processes covering microbial growth and production, downstream product recovery and purification.
Develop mass and energy balances, process flow and instrumentation diagrams, simulation and cost models.
Assess costs, benefits and limitations of relevant technologies and equipment available in the market.
Demonstrate technology performance and validate economics by designing, set-up and testing of pilot facilities.
Develop reports and present finding on research projects.
Demonstrates a solid scientific proficiency, creativity, ability to collaborate effectively with others, and independent thought processes.
Maintain detailed and complete lab notebook. Participate and follow through on IP filings.
Work safely in accordance with safety policies and practices.
Required Experience
M.S. with 3+ years industry experience or B.S. 8+ years industry experience in Chemical, Biochemical, Mechanical, or Agricultural Engineering. Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
Knowledge and practical experience in growth and/or downstream processing preferred.
Practical experience with system design and economic analysis.
Works on complex problems in which analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors
Ability to exercise judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
Proven ability to independently manage several distinct projects at once
Established methods and procedures on new assignments and provide guidance to other personnel
Knowledge of computer-based monitoring and control systems.
Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate interactions with an interdisciplinary team of scientists and engineers
