Engineering Manager PeopleMatter
THIS JOB HAS EXPIRED The person in this role ensures that the team produces technically superior software that provides value the PeopleMatter clients. They must be able to manage and direct multiple concurrent and complex software development efforts and communicate their details to a variety of technical and non-technical personnel. Leadership skills and motivational abilities are essential. The manager must work across all departments to drive projects from initiation to completion, ensuring the adherence to sound software development practices. This is a highly technical position with accountability for product quality but is also a leadership position requiring the ability to motivate and mentor development staff.
Evaluate team member performance, sets expectations and goals for department and individual staff members, recruits, disciplines and trains staff.
Build and nurture a cohesive and powerful team of top notch software developers.
Guide engineering staff in promoting high performance culture and cost effectiveness across teams.
Promote sharing of domain expertise and knowledge across the team.
Collaborate with Product Management to ensure clearly define user stories, product definition and
Develop product technology strategy by understanding key client objectives and requirements;
present solutions risks and mitigation, prepare time and cost estimates; plan full project life cycle
and recommend approaches to improve time.
Implement appropriate development methodologies (i.e., SCRUM/Agile/Kanban), best practices,
documentation, and tools.
Drive an improvement in velocity to speed time to market for new products.
Increase efficiency through automation, workflow streamlining, and system optimization.
Assess and communicate risks based on complexity, resource and timeline constraints.
Champion and improve our continuous integration and deployment within and across teams
Manage teams of engineers working on multiple products.
Design, code, and debug web applications and backend systems.
Broad knowledge of technology is required including intimate knowledge of multiple programming
languages, multiple operating systems, networking, internet and client/server architectures, and
knowledge of database, SaaS and system design.
Work with internal departments to identify PeopleMatter customer needs and include into project
Provide support regarding product development to internal departments.
Qualifications and Skills
10+ years of software development of enterprise systems and applications with experience in leading and managing software development teams
BS in Computer Science or a related field preferred
Excellent knowledge of the new technology trends and its applications for the new products in the
Excellent knowledge at the architectural level of software engineering discipline, specifically as it
relates to Microsoft technologies (C#, ASP.NET MVC4, LINQ) including hands-on knowledge of latest programming languages, OOP, high-performance, fault-tolerant distributed systems, data structures and algorithms, operating Systems, SaaS, distributed DBMS and DB modeling and access languages.
Strong problem solving, decision making, people management skills, cross group collaboration skills
Strong leadership skills, ability to perform under the pressure, steady demeanor during stressful and
complex situations, and optimize the team's resources to attain the business goals
Excellent written and verbal communication for technical and non-technical audiences, problem
solving, interpersonal, and time management skills , proven ability to delegate tasks to smaller teams
to get results
Working experience utilizing continuous integration/deployment concepts and streamlined delivery
Proven ability to build relationships, collaborate with and influence cross-functional teams across
product line boundaries
Proven track record in implementing agile methodologies and delivering shipping product
Proven ability to mentor team leads and team leads/junior managers to be effective , the ability to
accomplish results through managing junior managers is essential
