JOB SUMMARY:
Manage the daily personnel and technical activities for an engineering team to ensure projects meet scheduling and costing targets within the specified release plans. Manage release plans and schedules for products in all phases of their product life cycle. This is a working manager position, which requires you to also spend up to 50 of your time designing, developing, testing, and troubleshooting code for your team.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Manage technical leads, engineers, and contractors to achieve product release schedules within a software product development environment.
Provide growth and development opportunity for technical staff through continuous verbal and written communications.
Promote and foster a strong team environment.
Assist engineering team with all aspects of analysis, design, development, and testing within an engineering department
Manage the engineering responsibilities for all aspects of the product life cycle, including schedules, release plans, and maintenance.
Continually evaluate the teams performance and improve development standards and engineering process as required.
Interact with Customer Support on field support requirements and issues
Interact with Product Test to ensure world-class products delivered within projected schedules
Interact with customers as needed to coordinate subcontracted development and to ensure we are meeting the customers expectations.
Clearly and concisely communicate group status to your group, other groups, and management in both written and verbal form.
Work at the direction of senior management to achieve the business goals and commitments.
Initiate and participate in a continuous improvement process (CIP) to help drive quality results through engineering best practices.
Provide technical review of documentation, software designs, and program code.
Provide technical support to marketing and sales under the direction of engineering management.
Respond promptly and professionally to bug reports
Expected to conduct system analysis and development, with limited support from professional staff, to keep our systems current with changing technologies.
Responsible for utilizing tools and equipment involved in performance of essential functions of programming including measuring instruments.
Responsible for communicating with engineers and technical support staff regarding programming needs and performance.
Up to 20 overnight travel may be required
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
BS, Computer Science degree with 10+ years experience or 14+ years equivalent experience in the software industry, with 3 or more of those years in a technical lead or managerial position.
Capable of building a successful team environment within a fast-paced engineering environment.
Self-motivated with the discipline necessary to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Capable of taking technical direction while offering technical recommendations.
Strong and effective oral and written communications skills.
Strong and effective interpersonal skills within a diverse group of clients and staff.
TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Significant development experience in server applications using C++ and Visual Studio 2005.
Development experience with common relational databases, specifically, SQL Server 2005.
Proven abilities in all aspects of the product life cycle, including requirements analysis, product specifications, design, implementation, and test.
Strong knowledge of the supporting methodologies of configuration management with respect to software products.
Proven abilities in release content management for various products and platforms.
Demonstrated experience in the creation and refactoring of software architectures, designs, and implementations.
Development experience within software development and maintenance processes.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Secure coding experience using a trusted SW development methodology.
Knowledge and/or experience in the payment industry.
Knowledge and/or experience with communication protocols including TCP/IP, HTTPS, SSL and web services.
Knowledge and/or experience with message protocols like ISO 8583 and XML.
