Engineering Manager, UV LEDs HexaTech

Job description:

You will be a part of a dynamic team developing next generation of deep ultraviolet (UVC) LEDs on aluminum nitride (AlN) substrates. You will have overall responsibility for engineering management of a new generation of UVC LEDs that leverages HexaTechs unique capabilities in high quality, single crystal AlN substrates. Responsibilities will include

- Managing the LED development efforts, from concept to production ramp

- Managing the device design and fabrication (concept, heterostructure design, device simulation, fabrication, packaging)

- Leading the discussion on design tradeoffs design for performance, testability, packaging, reliability, cost

- Characterization and qualification of LEDs

- Communicating with customers and translating customer needs (water sterilization, medical devices, etc) into UVC LED device specifications



You will be a player-coach expected to both lead the engineering team as well as do hands-on work in all aspects of LED development and manufacturing.

You should be insightful, enthusiastic, self-motivated, have solid communication skills, and be a team player.



Education:

MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science or strong equivalent industrial experience.



Experience:

You should have a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in LED design, simulation, fabrication and application; and experience in leading an LED development effort. The strongest candidate will have experience in:

- Working with LED customers

o First-hand knowledge of issues in using LEDs in real systems

o Proven success in LED design-ins (applications engineering)

- Development of a customer-driven specifications, including performance, packaging, reliability, quality and cost

- Translation of the specification into design goals for the final LED device

- Design and fabrication of LEDs

o Design for real-world applications

o Trade off analysis to create target specification for the LED

- Packaging of LEDs

o Optimizing the package design for the target application (performance, heat management, reliability, cost)

o Working with LED assembly partners

- LED Testing

o Prototype characterization on wafer and packaged parts

o Packaged LED qualification (reliability testing)

o Production scale LED testing

- Managing of full-cycle LED development efforts, from concept to production ramp

o Planning the technical and engineering approach

o Building the team (internal and external)

o Managing the schedule to monitor progress and help remove impediments

- Working with supply chain vendors
