Description
The Engineering Manager Vehicle Dynamics and Active Safety is responsible to develop and validate the chassis system and component specifications to meet overall program targets for driving dynamics and active safety. This position reports to the Director of Chassis and Vehicle Integration Engineering.
Responsibilities
- Lead teams of steering, suspension, vehicle dynamics, brake and supplier engineers so as to identify and finalize the mechanical and software specifications necessary to meet ride, handling, steering, and braking performance targets.
- Using a DFSS methodology, work with the project team and key system suppliers to:
- Create customer-relevant, chassis system functional targets
- Establish chassis system architecture and functional feasibility
- Optimize the concepts and designs with analytical and physical assessments
- Complete component and system validation, ensuring performance targets are met
- Launch the product successfully, with high quality
- Meet chassis and overall project timing and financial constraints.
- Participate in sourcing process as required
- Support chassis engineering team meetings
- Ensure product conforms to all market regulations governing chassis systems
- Support vehicle development milestones and build events
Skills and Qualifications
- BS in electrical or mechanical engineering (MS preferred)
- Ten years minimum experience in automotive engineering
- Three years minimum experience leading passenger car vehicle dynamics development activities
- Three years minimum supervisory experience
- Expert knowledge of vehicle dynamics design, simulation, development and validation methods (required)
- Familiarity with interpreting CAE results and integrating recommendations in product designs
- Knowledge of CATIA V5 and GD&T (preferred)
- Ability to work in diverse and co-located teams
- Excellent communications skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage difficult projects with tight timing constraints.
