Job Description
JOB OBJECTIVES:This position is responsible for providing technical support to engineering and assisting in building and testing prototype products.
REPORTING: Reports to the Director of Engineering
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Assist R&D engineers in building, testing, and troubleshooting of prototypes as well as production units.
Enhances productivity of engineering group through support of engineering projects.
Improves product performance and cost through proactive suggestions for improvement.
Insures ISO/QSR standards are followed, maintained and improved.
Regular and predictable attendance is required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Conduct tests and document results
Create and fabricate test fixtures for R&D, as well as Production, as necessary
Mechanical, Opto-mechanical and electrical systems assembly, test, fault diagnostic, integration and debugging.
Board level SMD assembly diagnostic and repair.
Understands and complies with ethical, legal and regulatory requirements applicable to our business.
OCCASIONAL DUTIES:
Assists service department with the local demo pool
Assist with receiving, repair, testing, and shipping of repair instruments.
Provide back-up support for the production floor personnel
MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma.
6 years of experience in a technically related field may be considered in lieu of formal education.
Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and mechanical blueprints.
Computer experience using programs including, but not limited to, Windows, Word, Excel and others
Familiar with Windows operating systems and ability to set up and configure such systems.
Proficiency in using standard office-computer software: Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
Ability to prioritize workload based on guidelines provided by the Manager.
Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently for effective communication is required.
Self starter and fast learner requiring minimum supervision.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EE or EET degree.
Skilled in using standard electronic lab equipment such as oscilloscope and DVM is highly desirable.
Experience or education in repairing and maintaining instruments, preferably in the life science field.
Knowledge of instrument safety and regulatory compliance highly desired.
Experience with common molecular biology applications such as nucleic acid purification, amplification and protein biochemistry preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to use standard laboratory equipment.
Ability to wear safety equipment and follow safety guidelines while in the laboratory.
Ability to occasionally move objects up to 100 pounds up to one hour per day.
Ability to work in areas of limited space and varying environmental temperatures.
Ability to observe and inspect equipment and operations for proper operation and compliance to safety and housekeeping standards.
Ability to work in a production environment around automated equipment.
Ability to work in an office environment utilizing a computer workstation.
Ability to work in a lab environment with chemical and biological materials.
