Trion Worlds is seeking an Environment Artist to create AAA-quality Environments for Defiance?, our multi-platform shooter MMO being developed in collaboration with Syfy. The Environment Artist is responsible for designing exceptional environments in keeping with the art style determined by the Art Director and Lead Environment Artist.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with the Lead Artist, Art Director, designers, programmers, and concept artists to create final art, from early concept stages through completion of assets within a scheduled timeframe
Modeling environments, UV mapping, shader setup, texture map creation, and lighting
Communicate problem areas, expectations, and desired modifications to leads
Optimize assets to run at desirable frame-rates and fit within memory limitations
Create clean and organized assets, file structures, and storage
Keep abreast of changes and improvements made to the game engine and production pipeline during development
Work with the lead artists, technical artists, and tools programmers to create and augment environment workflow for production optimization
REQUIREMENTS
Excellent experience with game engines and artist tools, including fluency in Maya and Photoshop
Experience with current generation art-asset creation pipelines including normal map generation and complex shader setups
Working knowledge of the environment production pipeline, including understanding of memory, poly, and texture limitations, efficiency in building collision, comprehension of building streaming and loading levels, and character and level lighting
Minimum one game shipped with credit in the role of Environment Artist
Portfolio or reel demonstrating strong competency in the following areas: traditional art samples showing a strong understanding of color theory and shape design; 3D modeling, texturing, and lighting with examples of prop objects
Minimum three years of industry experience
Strong work ethic and attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
PLUSES
Knowledge of basic rigging and animation within Maya
Art-related college degree: BA or BFA
Experience with modular-based environment assets
Knowledge of effects animation and particle systems
