Crystal IS is a wholly owned subsidiary on the Asahi-Kasei Corporation, one of the largest Japanese conglomerates. Crystal IS is commercializing their innovative Ultra-violet Light Emitting Diode (UV LED) technology. A major portion of this technology is the production of AlN substrates, which are manufactured at the company's Green Island, New York location.
The Epi-substrate Operations Manager will establish and then manage the manufacturing operation that ensures on-time delivery of substrates that meets performance and quality specifications while meeting cost goals. The manufacturing processes within the scope of position include AlN crystal growth, wafering, CMP, and MOCVD. The position will report to the company's CEO.
The main goal for the position will be to lead the transition of the substrate research and development capability into a commercial production operation. Specific responsibilities for the position include:
Establish the production and capacity planning system for a novel, evolving manufacturing technology;
Establish methods to track and report key operations and quality metrics;
Lead weekly operations meeting to report key production results as compared to plan and tactics to recover from gaps;
Manage production on a day-to-day basis;
Document manufacturing processes and work instructions;
Hire and manage production staff;
Support the quality manager to establish the quality management system for the substrate production operation;
Drive continuous improvement in output and quality while reducing cost;
Coordinate with the Supply Chain Manager to maintain appropriate inventory of all production materials
Collaborate with the company controller to budget for production costs and maintain the manufacturing cost model;
Establish and manage a production equipment maintenance program;
Actively promote the company's safety policy
Other related assignments as required.
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
A hands-on leader willing to challenge the status quo and drive organizational change;
Demonstrated ability to create an operations management system;
Track record of success in meeting production commitments;
Experience transferring novel materials processing technology from R&D to production in a fast-growing, start-up environment;
Managing complex projects in the adding production capacity and systems;
Enterprise resource planning system implementation;
Experience working in a multi-cultural environment;
Experience working overseas is a plus.
The successful candidate will have:
More than ten years of production management experience;
Experience in a start-up environment is desirable;
A B.S. in an applicable engineering discipline (an advanced degree is desirable).
