Fermentation Technician Gevo
Gevo, Inc. is an exciting, team-oriented company that is pioneering the advanced green energy industry. We are looking for a Fermentation Technician, based in Luverne, Minnesota. The Fermentation
Technician will provide technical support as part of the Luverne Sterility Team which is an
Implementation Project Sub-team. This person will be responsible for following procedures established
for collecting and analyzing fermentation samples for viable populations of microorganisms and
monitoring product and byproduct production by HPLC, GC, and mass spec instrumentation.
Microbiological plating, sample preparation, and data recording are essential for this position. Position
will also be responsible for maintaining the laboratory and associated instrumentation in the Luverne
facility.
Requirements include:
? Associates or Bachelors degree in microbiology or biological sciences
? Candidates are required to have a minimum of 1 year experience in general microbiology practices
and fermentation
? Demonstrated mechanical ability.
? Attention to detail. Ability to follow recipes using metric and English measuring units
? Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply new concepts and techniques
? The candidate for this position must be a good communicator, able to work and think independently,
be a team player and willing to work overtime on occasion
? Shift work and travel is required for this position
? Preparing and delivering information in a concise, accurate and professionally written format
? Proven self-starter- must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
? Preparing and presenting information in an informal setting
? Working in a team oriented environment
? Analyzing and developing solutions to problems
? Developing and maintaining positive customer rapport
? Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office products
? Self-starter; must be able to identify errors or areas for improvement, provide recommendations and
follow through to completion
? Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
? Ability to lift 15 ? 25 pounds
? Required to work a shift schedule which includes a Saturday or Sunday
? Required to work temporarily (9-12 months) at Gevo?s commercial plant located in Luverne, MN
Responsibilities include:
? Execution of experiment and sampling protocols
? Perform basic fermentation assays (plate counts, purification, microscopic identification of
microorganisms, sample prep for HPLC and GC,
? General laboratory cleaning and maintaining inventory of disposables
? Laboratory equipment maintenance and cleaning
? Write and maintain Standard Operation Procedures
? Document experimental runs by maintaining accurate and thorough lab notebook documentation
? Write technical reports? Stock and order as necessary
