Field Clinical Engineer Second Sight Medical Products

Second Sight is searching for an experienced Field Clinical Engineer, with at least 2
years hands on testing on patients with implantable medical devices, is responsible for
providing field support to internal and external customers, including patient and device
testing, surgical support, pre- and intra-operative device testing, and advanced diagnostics
for hardware/software issues, analyzing trends from the issue tracking process related to
patient, hardware and software issues and investigating these trends. S/he is also
responsible to provide clinical and technical updates to external customers and field
feedback to the R&D and other cross-functional teams. A clinical engineer may also be
responsible for monitoring study documentation for compliance to governmental
regulations and/or for handling certain data management activities.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
? Provide training to clinical sites including clinicians and patients on the implant
? Provide technical support to site personnel who are programming the Argus II
System for use by a patient.
? Provide surgical support including pre- and intra-operative device testing.
? Liaison between internal staff and physicians/clinicians
? Must be willing to travel up to 70% outside the state of California and stay up to one
week at a clinical site.
? Point of contact for challenging clinical cases. Provide technical input into the
management of these cases/systems issues.
? Test patients in the field while adhering to the clinical protocol and document the
? Analyze field data and provide written site reports.
? Provide feedback to the R & D and Quality organization regarding field reliability
and patient-related issues analysis of field issues.
? Develop and execute investigations related to patient, hardware, software or overall
systems level problems based on trending from the issue tracking process.
? Design and develop tests to evaluate subject/system performance.
? Develop software tools to analyze subject/system data.
? Assist the R&D (software) group in session-based software testing, field trials of
new software and hardware. Report software and hardware issues in a timely
o Min. BSc degree in life sciences, electrical or biomedical
engineering. Master?s degree is a plus.
? Experience Required:
o Must have 2 years of experience in a medically-related setting, preferably in
the implantable medical device industry.
o At least 2 years field experience with hands-on testing of patients with
implantable medical devices.
o Must have an understanding of the application of electrical stimulation for

o Strong written and verbal skills.
? Required Knowledge:
o Basic statistical data analysis and database skill, electronic engineering
knowledge, Good Clinical Practices.
o Matlab experience is preferred.

o Must be willing to travel up to 70 and with short notice. No visa issues or
