Position Description:
To direct the activities of drivers and helpers and other staff in providing safe, efficient and courteous Waste Collection
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise drivers and helpers, including scheduling, training, corrective action and other related issues.
Plan routes and schedules of drivers and helpers.
Resolve missed customer collections or additional pick-ups.
Assure proper daily staffing levels.
Respond to customer inquiries, special requests, or complaints including interacting with city, state or municipal government employees.
Perform route audits to ensure safe and efficient procedures are followed and identify possible training needs to reinforce driver productivity.
Know and uphold the conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement with Local Union 174 and the Company handbook in order to maintain a healthy workforce.
Work with Operations Control to efficiently disseminate information, and coordinate movements in the field.
Maintain adherence to and support of company policies in regards to operations and safety issues including conducting daily Safety Teaching Moments with crews.
Review and retain information regarding municipal collection contracts in order to provide quality service, and informed decisions.
Complete employee road observation reports and discuss results with drivers and helpers.
Develop weekly work schedules to provide the most efficient service to customers.
Manage budgeted labor hours and disposal tons.
Respond to driver reports of unsafe or problem pick-ups.
Coordinate with accounts receivables, customer service, and sales concerning changes in customer service.
Coordinate with maintenance department concerning vehicle repairs.
Responsible for the timely communication, correction, and follow-up of customer service related issues including, but not limited to, site visits.
Approve time sheets and submit to payroll for driver and helper pay calculations on a bi-monthly basis.
Maintain and review logs for DOT hours worked and other required records.
Assist in investigation of accidents, injuries or property damage claims and/or missed customer collections.
Complete specific areas Operations Daily Report to keep upper management informed of daily operations.
Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications):
Five years of industry experience in daily field operations preferred (distribution or transportation operations experience considered).
Four-year college degree.
Valid Class A or B CDL with air brakes endorsement.
Management or supervisory experience, preferably within the waste management industry.
Meet CleanScapes Driver MVR Qualification Standards.
Strong commitment to workplace safety, OSHA and DOT regulations.
Basic computer skills and knowledge of MS Office programs.
Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines while under pressure in a dynamic environment.
Ability to rapidly learn and work with new systems and data.
Excellent organizational skills, follow-through, and attention to detail.
Great writing skills.
Ability to convey information and ideas clearly and openly.
