Description
The Field Systems Engineer's role is to remove the technical objections to the sale of NextIO products while ensuring the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the customer's information systems. This position works closely with customers on development, Proof of Concept, and support of I/O virtualization applications as they relate to Networking, Storage, and High Performance Computing using GPU's. Candidate would be responsible for tracking, documenting, and resolving customer issues. Candidate should have strong technical verbal and written skills. The Systems Engineer will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of NextIO's products to our customer's.
Position Requirements
Formal Education & Certification
- University degree in computer science or software engineering and/or years equivalent work experience.
- Must have a minimum of five (5) years experience in Systems engineering, applications, and customer support.
- Previous background in system design or in the data center preferred.
Knowledge & Experience
Must be proficient with various operating systems; Linux, Windows, etc. Must possess the ability to operate and configure computer equipment such as blade server systems, storage systems (such as JBOD's and RBOD's) and network equipment (such as Ethernet and Fibre Channel switches). The candidate will need to have a good strong understanding of data center architectures. Experience with high speed serial I/O architectures is a plus.
- Working technical knowledge of current software protocols, and Internet standards, including Fibre Channel and Ethernet
- Excellent software and hardware troubleshooting experience
- Extensive application support experience
- Working technical knowledge of programming/scripting languages
- Working knowledge of Network and PC operating systems, including all flavors of Windows and Linux
- Competence with testing, flowchart, and data mapping tools and procedures
- Excellent understanding of the organization's goals and objectives

The candidate must be able to interface well with Customers in all situations. Openly receive their various requests and issues, and then act on them quickly to end each issue with a customer who is satisfied with the results. Must be able to work closely with engineering teams to obtain a good understanding of the system, issues, resolution to issues, and translate this into a clear and concise written description for the customers and 3rd party support. Must be able to generate and present technical material on NextIO products.

Work Conditions
- On-call availability
- Travel with short notice
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and to handle other computer components
- Occasional inspection of cables in floors and ceilings
- Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.
