Financial Analyst/Budgeting
This position is a contract position in a highly proceduralized and regulated environment, with the potential for long-term contract work. This position is located in Bridgman, MI.
Essential Functions
Involved in preparing, reviewing and analyzing monthly expense data ensuring compliance with GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley principles.
This position works with business contacts across the organization to ensure expenses are appropriately accrued and reported in accordance with company and industry standards. Research trends and variances and communicate with appropriate staff to resolve issues.
Annual budget and planning duties and monthly forecasting of multiple departments. Allocation journal entries and project cost auditing/validation. Experience in month end closing processes, variance analysis and performance indicators.
Experience in Fixed Asset accounting with the ability to make O&M vs. Capital decisions based upon standard accounting classifications.
Experience with database reporting and exhibits ability to produce adhoc reports using database reporting tools.
Exposure to regulated revenue environments is a plus.
Identify process improvement opportunities to automate and streamline workflow, increase efficiency and transparency and strengthen controls to ensure the accuracy of data and provide management with actionable analytics.
Develop relationships with members of other departments to facilitate resolution of issues and stay informed of potential future issues.
This position works closely with corporate finance teams including Financial Reporting, Internal Audit and external auditors.
Requirements:
The Ideal Candidate will have:
A minimum of five (5) years accounting and analysis work experience required.
A minimum of a Bachelor?s degree in Accounting or Finance, with a Graduate Degree preferred.
Strong ability to analyze data and research accounting and financial issues.
Advanced Excel skills and be able to maintain and modify complex spreadsheets used for reconciliation, analysis and reporting, with a working knowledge of MACROS functions.
Working knowledge of all MS Office products required.
Proficient with database reporting tools, preferably Business Objects.
The candidate must be proactive, detail oriented, focused on identifying opportunities to improve the existing process, willing to share ideas and recommendations.
Strong communication skills enabling them to work effectively in person, on the phone and via email with other departments to resolve complex issues.
Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision in a fast-paced, multi-systems environment with multiple deadlines.
