Firmware Engineer / FPGA Developer Empower RF Systems
This is a technical position reporting to a Project Engineer or RF Engineer Manager with a supporting role within the Engineering Department. Primary focus is on the amplifier--??s digital control board based on Xilinx Spartan 3E FPGA. The position requires hands-on bench testing and debugging of digital hardware, interfacing with customers during design reviews and system tests and working with vendors to explain special requirements and to solve/resolve technical issues related to vendor-supplied material.
Actively participate in digital and software requirements definition.
Use current digital control board change and adapt to meet power amplifier module requirements.
Design and implement software components to meet customer-specific design requirements.
Create interface control documentation.
Perform circuit board hardware design using PADs.
Create basic software architecture and write code for individual modules using commonly used embedded system design languages (C, C++)Must be capable of working on assignments with little direct supervision.
Associate or Bachelor--??s degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering required.
4+ years of relevant experience with digital design and applications.
Must be proficient in VHDL.
Ability to decompose FPGA specification into VHDL RTL architectures and module building blocks.
Knowledge of embedded systems design, embedded processing and processor interfaces highly desired.
Familiarity with deploying microcontrollers, microprocessors, and soft core processors (MicroBlaze, PicoBlaze), as the design requires.
Experience with DSP filter design using Xilinx FPGAs.
DSP algorithm implementation experience a plus.
Experience with Xilinx ISE tools flow including synthesis, simulation, place and route, timing closure.
Experience with high-speed AD/DA conversion design.
Experience with high-speed serial link hardware and protocols.
Experience with system integration of FPGA design, high speed digital design, RF design.
Must be proficient at debugging at the firmware level as well as the system level using standard test equipment.
FPGA Verification and Validation;
Simulation with ModelSim.
Lead the verification effort for generating test benches using VHDL.
Experience writing low level device drivers (A/D, D/A, EPROM, Boot Flash).
Knowledge in working with serial communication protocol to enable asynchronous (UART).
Proficient in using various electronic test / measuring equipment including: Digital Multi-meter, Oscilloscope, Network Analyzer, Signal Generator, In-circuit Emulator, Data Acquisition, Spectrum Analyzer, and Logic Analyzer.
Familiarity with some of the following bus systems and related protocols is preferred: RS-232, LVDS, SPI.
Xilinx (soft core CPU) FPGA design experience is a strong advantage.
Analog and digital electronics circuit knowledge required and hardware design experience is a significant plus.
