Skybox Imaging is looking for an enthusiastic flight operations engineer for Skybox?s revolutionary imaging satellites. Founded in 2009 and funded by leading venture capital firms, Skybox is designing, manufacturing and operating the world's first coordinated constellation of high-resolution microsatellites.
The satellite operations engineer will be responsible for to creating and operating monitoring and commanding tools, as well as documentation of these procedures and systems. This position will also act as the operator for mission simulations, and transition into the role of on-orbit satellite operator after the launch of SkySat-1 & -2 later this year. The ideal candidate will have experience with database design and control, and a strong background in computer programming, as well as a demonstrated interest in aerospace and an eye for simplicity and design. Understanding of satellite subsystems (e.g. electrical, software, mechanical, guidance & control, payloads, etc) is strongly preferred, as is experience with 24/7 satellite operations. Candidates will be required to learn and understand satellite command and telemetry systems, mission planning systems, and operational functions of a mission control system, as well as satellite subsystems and components. This position requires design, implementation, and execution of detailed operations plans while working with engineers from a variety of disciplines (ground software, product, satellite subsystems).
The specific responsibilities for this position are broad in scope, but at a minimum include:
? Interact with software and hardware engineers to develop a set of flight procedures and flight rules to safely operate the satellites
? Build and manage operations databases for flight rules, telemetry limits, and flight procedures to safely operate Skybox satellites
? Support testing and create documentation for operations procedures
? Monitor all Skybox spacecraft for proper operation, responding to all off-nominal contingencies (telemetry limit violations, configuration and status changes, power and/or thermal anomalies, etc)
? Execute the operational plan for the satellite and associated ground systems, according to established procedures
? Execute the operational flow from satellite task planning to data delivery to the production environment
? Operate satellite and ground system monitoring and maintenance tools, to include troubleshooting of network issues
? Participate in mission scenario testing to validate operational readiness
? Participate in multiple satellite launch campaigns
? Execute innovative mission operations solutions to minimize resources and scale effectively with constellation
? Bachelor?s degree in Engineering, Science or Mathematics, with a demonstrated interest in aerospace
? Proficient with Linux, Python, Java, SQL, Subversion, HTML, and CSS
? Experience with database design and management
? Experience with spacecraft design, implementation, and 24/7 flight operations
? Excellent communication and collaboration skills
? Excellent writing and organizational skills
? Ability to work independently
