Develop and establish lab protocols and necessary testing equipment to evaluate PV modules and materials performance and reliability.
Develop procedures and documentation to support lab testing that are consistent with ISO standards.
Coordinate day to day activities in test lab; provide direction to technicians to accomplish lab goals and ensure a safe work place. Interface with management and procurement department to define priorities of testing program.
Report on production line PV Module indoor sun simulation I-V characteristics utilizing statistical techniques and reliability distributions to ensure accuracy and quality of measurement.
Establish production line performance and safety tests per IEC 61730-1/2 and UL1703 standards, including high voltage product testing. Ensure timely failure reporting, root cause analysis and effective corrective/preventative actions for production line testing.
Develop and establish calibration and certification program for production test equipment and calibration standards following IEC 60904 and relevant ASTM standards.
Analyze failure data and furnish reliability test report execute test projects in the module lab independently for new material qualification, module extended reliability and module quality to meet industry and customer requirements.
Assist Quality team to analyze field failures, establishing root cause for failures and determining appropriate solutions or other customer complaints regarding quality or reliability
Develop and execute indoor and outdoor module reliability testing to ensure performance for warranty period of product.
Monitor real time data from PV array test sites or customer sites for module performance and evaluate against modeled system performance. Generate PV System performance estimates using PV Syst, SAM or other.
Manage third party test program to evaluate long term system power output performance, bankability and long term system reliability.
Evaluate new materials technically and through performance testing in lab to improve module cost while maintaining or improving reliability.
Execute design or process changes that lead to improved reliability and work with other engineering personnel to implement them. Apply extended and accelerated reliability test protocols where necessary.
Build trials for new product designs and engineering changes with respect to product reliability, user requirements and warranty information.
Assist in module certification projects including regional and international certifications for modules.
Obtain 3rd party certification of new components in existing design to main PV standards (UL1703, IEC 61215, IEC61730).
Must have Bachelor?s degree in Electrical Engineering with focus in Alternate Energy Technologies, Materials Science, or Mechanical Engineering. Employer will accept Master?s degree in lieu of Bachelor?s Degree.
Must have 2 yrs exp. w/ Photovoltaic (PV) Module manufacturing /engineering or PV Module product certification, performance and reliability.
Experience must include experience with: PV module technologies and familiarity with PV system design; directing work of technicians in laboratory environment; Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, Outlook, MS Project); statistical methods; and using PV system modeling software (PV Syst, Solar Advisor Model (SAM), or Solar Design Tool). Experience must include use of software interfaces (Labview or Pspice) for equipment interfaces or computer program languages (Mat Lab, C++, or equivalent).
