General Ledger Staff Accountant Job Description
Working in an exciting, fast-paced entrepreneurial environment, the General Ledger Staff Accountant will have the opportunity to assist the Controller with a wide variety of accounting and analytical functions. Working creatively and independently, the General Ledger Staff Accountant will be responsible for maintaining processes and systems for financial and operational reporting. He/She will also prepare account analysis to identify business problems and issues, assist in the closing process including account reconciliations, and the preparation and maintenance of finance-related documentation.
The General Ledger Staff Accountant will assist with the evaluation of internal controls, and the resolution of internal control deficiencies. This involves continual improvement of systems, procedures and policies, and includes implementation of new systems or upgrades that improve reporting or strengthen controls. Special projects will include audits, budgets, tax and other external reporting.
Ensure the proper recording of accounting, financial and statistical transactions.
Create and maintain accurate capital asset records.
Oversee the accounting and reporting for VAT and certain other taxes.
Utilize database and spreadsheet applications to enter and later retrieve and organize data into required reporting formats.
Provide assistance with the month-end closing process including preparation of necessary journal entries and account reconciliations.
Prepare periodic reports on actual financial results and variances to budget, and provide explanations by researching information.
Provide assistance with departmental projects to include, but not be limited to, various audits and preparation of ad-hoc reports and analyses.
Assists with interpreting legal reporting requirements and regulations, including generally accepted accounting principles, treasury and tax.
Assists in reviews of financial and internal controls to determine whether such controls are adequate to meet management objectives and ensure the safeguarding of assets.
Other duties as assigned from time to time.
Bachelor's Degree with a major in Accounting. CPA or MBA is a plus.
5-7 years? experience in financial accounting and reporting in a software or service organization.
Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles. Understanding of International standards a plus.
Skill in preparing and maintaining documentation concerning account balances and the systems of internal control. Experience with Sarbanes-Oxley a plus.
Advanced user of MS Excel and MS Powerpoint, including hands-on skills with data import and extraction, manipulation and analysis.
Proficiency with ?Cloud? accounting applications, exposure to travel expense, time accounting/project management and CRM applications is a plus.
Demonstrated experience in establishing a professional and cooperative customer-service approach to relations with internal stakeholders and external service providers.
Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter and work independently, enthusiastic, sincere and passionate about doing one?s best.
