Merrimack is a biopharmaceutical company discovering, developing and preparing to commercialize innovative medicines paired with companion diagnostics for the treatment of cancer. Merrimack currently has six therapeutic oncology candidates in clinical development. The most advanced of these candidates is MM-398, for which we just received positive phase 3 data from the NAPOLI-1 study in patients with metastatic pancreas cancer.
Merrimack is expanding its new division, Merrimack Healthcare Solutions (MHS), whose goal is to implement an effective and thoughtful approach to the commercialization of biopharmaceuticals. MHS is responsible for ensuring the successful launch and rapid adoption of MM-398 and the rest of Merrimack?s future therapeutic and diagnostic products. We are looking for experienced, innovative leaders who want to explore novel ways to commercialize Merrimack?s therapeutic and diagnostic products in tomorrow?s dynamic healthcare environment and who are committed to improving patients? lives.
You will serve as the chief executive officer of your region and play a critical role in developing innovative, robust and actionable national and regional objectives, strategies, plans, tactics and metrics. You will open, staff and lead a regional office comprised of a cross-functional team. The GM will split his/her time working with headquarters-based cross-functional partners and stakeholders on strategic plans, projects and initiatives and the rest of his/her time working in the field with the team, customers and others to develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of the business across the region.
Open, size, staff and lead a multidisciplinary regional office
Establish clear roles, responsibilities, objectives and metrics for your team members.
Develop and retain talent.
Serve as a role model for compliant behavior that is consistent with the mission, vision and values of the organization
Define and execute the regional launch strategy for MM-398 in partnership with the MHS leadership team. Determine which tactics are appropriate and relevant for your region given the local market dynamics.
Determine, monitor and adjust over time the composition of your team in response to the specific needs of your local market mix
Coach and guide your team members in the development of regional and key account business plans. Deploy a multi-pronged approach that engages key centers, thought leaders, patient societies/associations, and other stakeholders and influencers.
Monitor ongoing performance and customer feedback in a robust fact-based business review process and identify opportunities for improvement regionally and nationally.
Be an integral part of the effort to build MHS from the ground up and be an active leader in national projects and initiatives to support the launch of MM-398 and the organization.
Manage regional P&L
Relationship Management & Field Operations:
Work with your team members, customers, other stakeholders and influencers to develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of the business across your region and coach and guide your team members to increase their effectiveness and overall results
Ensure your team develops and continuously enhances and applies in-depth therapeutic, disease area, product, supply chain and competitive knowledge
Work with your team and MHS Market Access to support formulary positioning by providing scientific/medical support in payer interactions
Ensure your regional team continuously identifies, builds and cultivates enduring relationships with internal business partners, external customers, stakeholders and influencers. Model high-touch, influential relationship management for your team members and others to follow.
Bachelor?s Degree (business or life sciences discipline).
Clinical degree, MBA or related graduate-level business degree is strongly preferred
10+ years? experience in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry, with 5 or more years? leadership experience, including 2+ years? field management experience (clinical nurse educator management, field reimbursement management, managed care account management, medical affairs management, sales management, etc.)
Led or held senior role in at least two different functions in the pharma/biotech industry (e.g. Marketing, Market Access, Sales, Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Training)
Outstanding interpersonal skills and demonstrated cross-functional leadership
Experience hiring, developing and retaining talent
Considerable oncology experience. Orphan drug experience is a plus
New product launch experience. Experience leading teams through new product launches is strongly preferred
