Job Description
As Hardware Design Manager in Hardware Engineering, you will play a key role in the release of SSN?s Smart Grid Networking solutions. You will work closely with our hardware and manufacturing teams to develop, test and qualify products to verify functionality, robustness, and compliance with SSN product requirements. You will manage the hardware development team to meet product schedules, ensure timely completion of deliverables, submission and posting of related documentation, meet robustness requirements, etc. This will involve working with other cross-functional groups such as mechanical, product management, test, compliance, project management, etc. to develop development and test plans and ensure the product meets all requirements.
The Manager will be responsible for successfully completing related project tasks, such as the design, analysis, documentation, verification, and release for a variety of products in the Smart Grid technology industry incorporating a variety of technologies, such as wireless RF, analog, embedded processors, network interfaces, and AC and DC power supplies, and batteries.
Functional Descriptions:
? Contribute to all phases of product development lifecycle (requirements, design, validation, production, support). Work with interdisciplinary marketing, engineering, and manufacturing teams to design and implement architectures and circuitry to support complex Smart Grid end points, infrastructure, and access point products.
? Manage group of hardware engineers; assign resources, create budgets, resolve technical and personnel issues, prioritize projects and tasks, manage workload.
? Review, recommend, and direct the architecture and implementation of hardware circuits consisting of an optimal configuration of microcontrollers, digital logic, memory, ASICs, analog circuits, wireless RF, filters, Ethernet, while meeting mechanical, software, testing, cost, performance, time, and manufacturing constraints.
? Responsible for the successful implementation of wireless RF interfaces (such as Zigbee, 802.15.4, or WiFi) meeting controlled impedance and low noise requirements.
? Approve the selection of components, review electrical schematics (OrCAD), layout (PADS), ensure the completion of bill of materials for Agile PLM, incorporate DFM feedback, and release controlled engineering drawings and documents that capture design intentions, fabrication or assembly methods, test requirements and acceptance criteria.
? Ensure design meets a variety of stress conditions, such as industrial temperature range (-40 to +85 deg C), and outdoor exposure (UV and salt fog), and also meet EMI / EMC requirements, and protect electronic circuits from overstress.
? Coordinate with embedded real-time software engineers to optimize system operations, debug hardware, implement communication interfaces and signals, and release robust systems to meet schedule constraints.
? Coordinate with mechanical engineers to develop reliable PCBA interconnect schemes, mounting mechanisms, enclosures, and thermal management solutions
? Accommodate and ensure ICT or functional test methods that enable test coverage to achieve the corporation?s quality, yield, and throughput goals
? Converse with integrated circuit suppliers, applications engineers, contract manufacturing engineers to swiftly optimize and verify the performance of prototype systems and release into production.
? Conduct and participate in concept, design and continual product improvement projects and reviews
? Coordinate completion of engineering and device verification test reports that illustrate conformance to circuit and product design goals
? Coordinate or calculate MTBF for new hardware designs
? Execute processes as needed to assess and proactively manage and systematically reduce design risks to achieve quality objectives
Required Experience
Must be well organized and be able to work with minimal supervision
? Must be able to coordinate internal and external resources
? Excellent written and verbal communication skills
? Excellent technical problem solving skills, and ability to identify/mitigate potential issues before they occur
? Solid understanding of product development tasks, including design, test, calibrate, troubleshooting, characterization, and documentation
? Familiar with AC-DC or DC-DC power supply circuits and sequencing requirements that result in robust start-up, regulation, and excellent transient stability
? High volume product design experience highly desirable
Education, Training & Certification Requirements:
? BS in Electrical Engineering required. MS in Electrical Engineering highly desirable
? Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
