Job Description
We are looking for exceptional engineers with the desire to develop high performance computing and storage systems, who are passionate about developing enterprise-quality, highly scalable systems. You will lead HW selection, qualification and validation efforts for server/storage platforms, collaborate w/ SW Eng and Product Marketing on product requirements and capabilities, and propose/deliver proposals for alternative HW platform architectures, along with impact on overall system performance. Working in conjunction with the software engineering team, you will be responsible for validating hardware operation, standards compliance, firmware capabilities and programmatic interfaces. You will be the hardware technology expert enabling high quality, innovative, systems software development.
Responsibilities:
Lead HW selection and qualification for next generation server/storage platforms:
Create HW Platform Qualification test plan
Evaluate and qualify motherboards, memory, CPUs, add-on cards, chassis, and power.
Evaluate and qualify BIOS/firmware; resolve HW/SW interaction issues.
Maintain prototypes, loading and configuring BIOS, BMC/IPMI, and FW updates
Define and document system configurations, including FW stack, memory and option cards
Create tests to validate hardware correctness. Test the tests (making the test suite solid, and creating regression tests to make sure it stays solid)
Sustaining Support for currently shipping platforms:
Qualify second source components (HDD, Flash Drives, memory, PCI I/O cards)
Qualify new BIOS/firmware
Interface w/ suppliers on product and component roadmaps
Provide HW support and Failure Analysis for Field Returns
Desired Skills and Experience
BS/MS in ME/CS/EE and 3+ years related experience
Ability to work in a software centric systems startup environment...it's not strictly a hardware position, nor is it strictly a software position
Thorough understanding of modern x86 server architectures and storage technologies (SSD, SATA, SAS, RAID, etc.)
Good understanding of BIOS and EFI-related standards.
Good understanding of embedded management and monitoring standards such as BMC, SMART, IPMI 2.0 protocol.
Knowledge of Python, Linux, Perl, shell scripting and automation processes.
Good verbal communication & collaboration skills
Familiarity with virtualization technologies a plus
