The HW Project Manager I/II is responsible for providing the detailed project management discipline that is necessary to maximize performance on hardware product development projects. This involves creating complete project plans, collaborating with Functional Managers to ensure availability of resources, working with Product Managers to develop product requirements and plans, and tracking performance against targets.
The HW Project Manager I is expected to lead several small to mid-sized hardware projects with moderate supervision. At times, hardware projects will involve software personnel and the HW Project Manager I will be responsible for the coordination of software efforts in these cases. The HW Project Manager I also participates in efforts aimed at improving Vocollect?s Product Development Process.
The HW Project Manager II is expected to lead several small to mid-sized hardware projects or one large hardware project with little or no supervision. At times, hardware projects will involve software personnel and the HW Project Manager II will be responsible for the coordination of software efforts in these cases. The HW Project Manager II also participates in efforts aimed at improving Vocollect?s Product Development Process.
?Manage individual hardware projects. Produce detailed project plans specifying: technical scope, goals per project phase, objectives and strategy, staffing requirements, budget, risks, contingency plans, and allocation of resources.
?Lead the project team in identification and resolution of project issues. Responsible for encouraging and implementing creative approaches to problem solving and project trade-off decisions. Responsible for resolving alternative approaches and keeping a clear project path in place for the team.
?Collaborate with Product Managers to develop measurable and achievable product requirements, responding to requests for changes from original requirements in an organized manner.
?Identify and schedule project costs, intermediate deliverables, milestones, and required tasks.
?Coordinate assignments of cross-functional project personnel (HW, SW, Product Management, Operations, Services, etc) to the project team.
?Direct and coordinate activities of project personnel to ensure project tracks on schedule and within budget.
?Review status updates prepared by project personnel and modify schedules and plan as required.
?Prepare project status reports and keep the team, management and others informed of project status and related issues.
?Assure that project documentation is complete and accurate, and test plans are complete, accurate, and executed.
?Administer and manage business relationships with external resources such as design firms, consultants, and partners.
?BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent discipline.
?PMI certification desirable
?For PM II:
oAt least seven years of experience in product development, implementation, or product field engineering, including a minimum of five years of product-oriented project management experience.
oProven success in managing projects that produce commercially available hardware products.
?For PM I:
oAt least four years of experience in product development, implementation, or product field engineering, including demonstrated ability to lead engineering teams.
