Dartmouth College?s greatest asset is the population of employees who bring the organization to life. The College places enormous value on the health and wellbeing of its employee community and is eager to engage a large portion of its employees in health and wellness activities. The dedication to this endeavor has lead to the development of a number of innovative initiatives aimed at empowering employees to engage in efforts dedicated to their personal health. The newest of such initiatives is the employee-based Health Coaching Program, which leverages risk assessment and biometric screening to provide lifestyle-based counseling for its employees in a distributed way across campus. Dartmouth College has engaged Iora Health, a Massachusetts-based company as a partner to design and manage this offering.
Iora Health is seeking talented Health Coaches interested in being at the core of the program, who can combine outstanding customer service, motivational interviewing, counseling, and clinical acumen to deliver exceptional care to the employee community.
As a foundation, Coaches will strive to build long-term relationships with participants that are based on trust, mutual-respect and participant empowerment. Through these relationships, Coaches will provide each employee with a trusted accountability partner who supports them as they work toward those goals.
Coaches will utilize screening tools to help participants understand their personal health risk factors, set personal health and lifestyle goals and measure progress against those goals. They will combine the use of these screening tools with the techniques of motivational interviewing and connections to community-based and online resources to empower participants to make lifestyle changes and achieve their long-term goals.
Coaches will provide 1:1 coaching in a variety of locations around campus, providing convenient and easy access to services for employees. Coaches will also engage the employee community in a wide variety of group activities aimed at engaging and supporting employees through multiple means.
Coaches will be supported and linked with the practice staff at Dartmouth Health Connect, an innovative primary care practice designed specifically to meet the needs of the Dartmouth employee population as part of the College?s dedication to employee wellness. We are currently seeking part-time and full-time candidates.
Specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
Actively engage 400-600 participants and facilitate the creation and implementation of their customized wellness plans
Communicate with participants in person, by telephone and via electronic means
Engage with participants 1:1 and in group settings
Use motivational interviewing (MI) techniques to help participants recognize opportunities as well as barriers for healthful behavior change
Incorporate health information and biometric data to tailor participant interactions and facilitate appropriate goal setting
Implement a range of interventions/skills including counseling, coaching, coordination, education, referral and advocacy to gain access to services and resources for participants
Provide customized, evidence-based participant education in a variety of areas including but not limited to diet and nutrition, exercise, stress management and tobacco control
Communicate wellness plans and pertinent information with the Program Team, including members of the Dartmouth Health Connect team, as well as with other parties participating in the care of the participant
Assist with the coordination of care across the continuum of available resources and services while ensuring strict participant confidentiality at all times
Leverage IT systems designed to help monitor participant progress and proactively reaching out to assure participant well-being
In addition, Health Coaches will be responsible for:
Performing all necessary administrative intake/onboarding functions
Ensuring proper, comprehensive documentation of all participant interactions associated with the Coaching Program
Scheduling and coordinating coaching appointments
Facilitating necessary integration with external resources
Reminding participants of upcoming appointments and reaching out following missed appointments
Must serve as a role model and be able to ?walk the wellness walk,? not simply ?talk the wellness talk?
Must be open-minded, non-judgmental and compassionate
Must be a goal-oriented, high energy, passionate leader
Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication skills via telephone and electronic means including exceptional listening skills, ability to use appropriate language and demonstrated writing skills
Must have the ability to work well both as a member of a team and independently
Must have exceptional organizational, problem-solving and time management skills
Must demonstrate intellectual independence and willingness to learn new skills
Must be flexible and comfortable with ambiguity
Advanced degree in behavioral health, counseling, exercise science, physiology, athletic training strongly preferred.
Minimum of 2 years experience in a health-related service environment required
Training/coaching experience required
Experience teaching groups required
Experience in smoking cessation counseling a plus
Familiarity with the Hanover/Lebanon, NH community preferred
