We build highly interactive, personalized shared-decision products help consumers find treatments that work. As part of that mission, we offer well-researched, engaging, instructive content across a wide range of health topics.
As a member of the Content Team, the Health Editor is both an individual contributor and a project manager. The Health Editor is responsible for user-facing health content and supporting back-end projects.
Wiser Health is looking for an experienced health editor to deliver engaging web content in a variety of forms. Content may include: descriptions of medical conditions and issues, descriptions of medical treatments, summaries of evidence-based medicine, text for health newsletters, glossaries of medical terminology, blog posts, etc.
Candidates must have a proven track record in distilling complex clinical information (e.g., medical studies) into clear, conversational content that the average person can understand.
Our audience is not the medical professional, but the patient. As such, Health Editor candidates must have an in-depth understanding of the target audience and possess the ability to shape editorial content in a way that best serves the user.
Produce highly engaging content that meets Wiser Health?s editorial standards within the established timeline; critically review content for scientific and clinical accuracy and appropriateness
Collaborate with staff/freelance writers, physician advisors, social media managers and tech developers as needed
Ensure content is in compliance with editorial templates, policies, and processes
Identify and proactively resolve challenges to content quality and delivery deadlines
Develop content plans and writing assignments
Proactively and systematically review web content, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of information presented.
Enter content into the content management system
Superior writing and editorial skills, particularly in patient education or health service journalism, research, writing and editing
Thorough knowledge of editorial content development and processes, including copyediting, editorial style, medical ethics and journalism ethics
Must possess strong research ability and be comfortable using medical databases, health Web sites and other online resources
Ability to determine quality sources from unacceptable sources
Skilled at editing for consumer audiences; be able to hear the rhythm of language and style
Strong, proven editing ability, involving writing, line editing, substantive editing, copyediting, tone, and headline creation
Ability to exercise judgment to make decisions and provide guidance to other team members according to set standards
High comfort level with various technology applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel, Google docs, project management systems (e.g., Jira), content management systems, internal wikis (e.g., Confluence)
Bachelor?s degree required in related field: journalism, English, marketing, communications
5-7 years experience in professional writing/editing, communications, journalism, consumer digital media
Experience in Web-based consumer health/medical content strongly preferred.
This position is also open to candidates in Los Angeles or New York. (Relocation not required.)
