Answers, evaluates, and prioritizes incoming telephone, voice mail, e-mail, and in-person requests for assistance from users experiencing problems with hardware, software, networking, and other computer-related technologies.
Interviews user to collect information about problem and leads user through diagnostic procedures to determine source of error.
Determines whether problem is caused by hardware such as modem, printer, cables, or telephone.
Handles problem recognition, research, isolation, resolution and follow-up for routine user problems, referring more complex problems to supervisor or technical staff.
Logs and tracks calls using problem management database, and maintains history records and related problem documentation.
Consults with programmers to explain software errors or to recommend changes to programs.
Calls software and hardware vendors to request service regarding defective products.
Tests software and hardware to evaluate ease of use and whether product will aid user in performing work.
Writes software and hardware evaluation and recommendation for management review.
Trains users on software and hardware on-site or in classroom, or recommends outside contractors to provide training.
Installs personal computers, software, and peripheral equipment.
Requirements & Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual should meet the following minimum requirements and qualifications:
BS degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience with Windows desktops and operating systems.
Oral and written communication skills with internal customers
Able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment ? ?go extra mile? to solve customers? problems
Willingness to take initiative and follow-through - with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Able to provide hands-on support, and remediation in a timely fashion
Experience in Desktop/Helpdesk Information Services a plus
Experience with Windows Intel based desktop/laptop hardware desired.
Experience with Apple Mac devices and Mac OS a plus.
Experience with office telecom products and providers.
Some travel required in support of Zipcar?s 14 sites in the US, Canada and United Kingdom ? 5%
Safety and Security
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in an office environment with some physical demands, such as bike riding, standing for long periods of time, bending, stretching, lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs., and normal exposure to everyday risks and discomfort requiring common safety precautions. Work will also be performed at street marketing events. Travel to and work at these events ordinarily does not increase physical demands, but does increase exposure to risks and inclement weather with associated discomfort. Extra care must be exercised under these circumstances.
