Job Description
Join Precyse as we lead the movement toward HIM Innovation. In this role, you will leverage your inpatient and outpatient coding expertise to define and construct content and workflow rules to support the computer-assisted coding product line and other coding related software products. This is an exciting opportunity be part of a team driving innovative software solutions to meet the challenges of the ICD-10 conversion.
Responsibilities:
Ask the appropriate questions to derive correct ICD/CPT codes for specific coding situations. Define various ways codes can be described when documented by a clinician. Create electronic content supporting the correct ICD/CPT coding results for textual clinical documentation.
Construct rules to accommodate concurrent and post-discharge coding processing for all coding workflows (inpatient, outpatient, etc.)
dentify common clinical descriptions and semantics for various diagnostic terms and statements. Help apply the currently prescribed coding rules to best match up with these descriptions.
Work with NLP (natural language processing) linguists to define NLP rules and articulate coding rules and conventions (rules for combined codes, assigning principal diagnosis, proper sequencing, etc.) in a meaningful way.
Articulate the understanding of clinical documentation and coding workflow for the developers.
Work with linguists and developers to help define the data and data structures supporting automated medical coding.
Conduct iterative QA and testing of NLP-assigned codes providing daily feedback to the development team.
Communicate changes, enhancements and modifications verbally or through written documentation
Work with Product Analyst to identify requirements for user interface, features and functionality of the CAC and other coding-related software products.
Create diagrams and flow charts to help developers understand the workflow for clinical documentation review and code assignment
Act as the subject matter/domain expert on the CAC and other coding related products
Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to editing technical level files and communicating these edits to the development team.
Position may require some travel for in person team strategy and planning sessions and in person client meetings as needed.
Requirements
RHIA or RHIT and CCS credentials required.
Minimum of 7 years of inpatient and outpatient coding knowledge and experience with ICD-9 diagnostic and procedural coding as well as CPT
Elementary understanding of ICD-10 diagnosis and procedure coding
Familiarity with SNOMED CT ontology, or other structured medical terminologies
Minimum of 2 years of coding management experience including work flow management in a hospital setting
Excellent knowledge of coding guidelines and conventions
Must possess coding domain expertise
Experience with clinical documentation requirements
Experience with coding data management and analysis
Experience with Coding QA preferred.
