Summary of Functions:
We are currently seeking experienced Industrial Engineer for our facility in the Shepherdsville, KY community.
The candidate will provide site the necessary support in industrial engineering / packaging engineering. As part of the ongoing initiative to improve quality and efficiencies, the Industrial engineer will assist with the analysis of operating procedures and work closely with the site management team for continuous improvements utilizing lean, six-sigma techniques. The engineer must have the ability to support new initiatives and must have prior experience in project management, preferably in a warehousing or distribution setting. The engineer will be responsible for providing analytics to drive cost improvement.
The engineer will also have responsibility to create and provide interpretation of the finished goods packaging in accordance to the customer contractual requirements. The candidate must have a good understanding of the packaging requirements both in military and commercial setting. The packaging engineer will be responsible to ensure that proper materials are maintained and conform to the requirements of the various packaging standards.
Essential Functions:
Communicate with all levels of New Breed staff both local and corporate, on site client representative, and possibly off site client resources.
Lead process improvement and lean initiatives, including documenting processes.
Plan and direct activities concerned with design and development of protective packaging containers and crates
Analyze engineering drawings and specifications of product to determine physical characteristics of item, special-handling and safety requirements, and type of materials required for container
Develop or direct development of sketches, specifications, samples, and written analyses of proposed packaging
Provide feedback to the management team on efficient packing procedures, innovations in packaging materials, and utilization of sealing and fastening devices.
Ability to create diagram using AutoCAD to provide detailed illustration of facility layout and space planning
Project scheduling for all projects both internal and utilizing external resources.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to occasionally lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds.
Able to work in an office/warehouse environment.
Able to sit, stand, bend, twist or stoop as needed.
Education and/or Experience Requirements
BSIE or similar degree or substantial experience.
Prior experience in packaging environment and must have good understanding of the Mil-STD and ASTM standard packaging requirements
Excellent communication skills to work with all levels of New Breed and Client staff from hourly associates to senior management.
Ability to multi task and shift priorities.
Highly skilled in Microsoft Office applications and warehouse management systems.
Other requirements:
Must be able to travel 50% of the time
