Instructional Design Manager:
Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned. In addition to serving as an Instructional Designer on assigned courses, an Instructional Design Manager will:
Manage a team of Lead Instructional Designers (LIDs), Instructional Designers (IDs) and Associate Instructional Designers (AIDs).
Work with Lead Instructional Designers (LIDs) to support program initiatives and provide training to direct reports on the implementation of program standards, team processes, and course documentation (including Wrike tasks and time logs).
Assist in the development of training programs for new LIDs, AIDs and IDs.
Assist in developing evaluation tools for assessing effectiveness of courses within partner programs.
Guide direct reports on the improvement of course quality and process efficiency by
o coaching direct reports on effective consultation strategies to use with faculty during development.
o coaching direct reports on the effective implementation of Understanding by Design.
o reviewing courses, media storyboards, and course documentation with direct reports and providing constructive feedback and guidance.
Assist in the recruitment and hiring of AIDs, IDs, and LIDs.
Help develop, maintain, and support a portfolio of samples that showcase EmbanetCompass?s unique Course Development product.
Create opportunities to highlight innovation across the Course Development team.
Co-develop new and revision courses in various Learning Management Systems.
Support the business units in the escalation and proactive resolution of course development issues.
Assist Director of Instructional Design in the realizing of Course Development initiatives.
Support the Instructional Design department by keeping abreast of technology innovations, higher education trends, and DOE regulations that impact course design and documentation; develop and implement training to IDs and AIDs on these topics.
Work with the Instructional Training Manager to identify knowledge gaps and determine training needs for the ID and AID team.
Support new program launches and attend Partner Course Development Workshops as needed. (Limited travel may be required.)
Assist in the creation and maintenance of materials for the Course Development Workshop, including the Faculty Workbook and Course Development Workshop courses.
Qualifications
Minimum of a master?s degree in education, instructional design, curriculum, educational technology, or a related degree (strongly preferred)
Previous people management experience
3+ years in higher education (strongly preferred)
2+ years of teaching experience, online classroom experience (strongly preferred)
3+ years of instructional design and/or curriculum development experience, preferably for online environments Advanced knowledge of educational technology, adult learning principles, constructivism, facilitation, and learner-centered activities
Some experience in learning management systems (LMSs) and knowledge of CSS and HTML (preferred)
Comfortable working within project management applications
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Exceptionally strong attention to detail
Excellent people/interpersonal skills and team-building skills
Ability to influence and lead peers and external partners
Ability to be creative, flexible, and innovative in course design
Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, adhere to budgets, and meet deadlines
