Instructional Design Specialist - Technical Training Programs
You're perfect for this role if:
You're an Instructional Design professional who is passionate about training and not afraid to say "No" when training is not the answer! You can design and develop any type of training from engaging instructor-led workshops to active eLearning based curriculums that support Dotster's technical products and programs. You don't like run-of-the-mill, boring eLearning that puts learners to sleep. You think outside of the box and build content that people actually get excited to use! You know how to conduct effective needs analysis, recommend the right method for training, develop training programs, and then measure the effectiveness post-training. As an ISD Rock Star, you're very skilled in determining whether there is a true training need and you know how to address it!
Critical Responsibilities for the Technical Instructional Design Specialist:
Identify core learning objectives and use those to build an effective training module (classroom, lab or eLearning)
Manage your ISD projects like a project manager. You're responsible for getting information needed to complete your projects on schedule
Design and develop engaging instructor-led training and online training programs to improve employee performance
Take convoluted technical documentation and use it to build quality training modules that only focus on the "need to know" information
Work closely with Subject Matter Experts to glean information about products and technical processes
Have a strong working knowledge of domains, hosting, email and site builders. (If you don't know about these, you should be motivated and driven to learn them quickly!)
Create facilitator's guides for all instructor-led training
Provide train-the-trainer to instructors who will be teaching new courses, observe pilot classes to ensure the curriculum flows well and that the instructors have the right materials to teach the class
Conduct post-training follow up with Leaders and employees gauge retention of training content
The employee in this role must have a strong understanding and experience with:
Building technical training from scratch, eLearning design using multiple authoring tools like Captivate, Articulate, Storyline, or any other eLearning tools (The more you know, the better!), methodologies to address all learning styles in a classroom environment, creation and implementation of technical training workshops and eLearning modules, strong understanding of testing and surveying methodologies.
Education and work experience needed for this role:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education, Instructional Design, Technical Writing or related subject
Strong written communication skills (Word nerds!)
Minimum of 5 years of Instructional Design experience and professional training experience preferred (employment history should demonstrate that you have instructional design experience and experience building training programs.)
Member of the American Society of Training and Development preferred
ISD Certification preferred
Technical Writing experience
