The Job
Responsibilities:
- Work as part of a small team of elite engineers designing and building the SpaceX Launch and Payload Integration capabilities at our new launch facility at Vandenberg Air Force Base on the Central Coast of California
- Design, build, and maintain launch vehicle and spacecraft payload processing facilities
- Lead launch vehicle and spacecraft payload processing activities; critical multi-million dollar systems
- Develop and execute procedures for the integration and checkout of Launch Flight Hardware and Ground Support Equipment
- Collaborate with engineering staff from other departments and highly skilled field technicians on a daily basis
- You must be a self-starter that will seek out the solutions to technical problems with the local team along with the larger SpaceX workforce. Expect interactions with all departments and aspects of the rocket design.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering field with strong emphasis on electrical, software, and RF/communications; Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineer, Computer Science, Robotics, and/or Aerospace Engineering
- Demonstrated recent “hands-on†experience designing, building, integrating, and testing complex multi-disciplinary system
- Launch vehicle and/or spacecraft experience is not required; emphasis on projects that involve the integration of electrical, mechanical, and software systems
- Strong “hands-on†experience in one or more of the following areas -- board level hardware design, electronics test rack design, hardware/software integration, RF communications, and/or software development
- Passion for advancing the commercial space industry and human spaceflight
- Strong work ethic and drive to succeed balanced with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Ability to work in a fast paced, autonomously driven, and demanding start-up atmosphere
- Ability to exceed work expectations and thrive in a high-stress environment
- Ability to communicate clearly and accurately with a wide range of people
- Occasional travel may be required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineer, Computer Science, Mechatronics/Robotics, and/or Aerospace Engineering
- Hands-on Radio Frequency and Communications hardware experience
- Previous experience with critical multi-million dollar hardware
