Description:
FibroGen seeks a talented and experienced patent attorney who will provide patent and other intellectual property support for multiple active pharmaceutical research and development programs, and will draft and prosecute a substantial docket of U.S. patent applications. Additional responsibilities include management of foreign counsel in prosecution of a worldwide portfolio, interaction with scientific project teams to gather information for patenting, analysis of invention disclosures, review of draft publications, provide advice and recommend strategies to executive management about exclusivity, freedom to operate, due diligence, contract, licensing, and litigation issues, and analysis of 3rd party portfolios. Depending upon experience, other responsibilities could include patent licensing and transactional matters, patent life-cycle management, trademark registration.
Job Requirements:
J.D. from accredited U.S. law school.
Member in good standing of California State Bar. (Or member in good standing of another state bar, prepared to sit for the California Bar exam.)
Registered to practice before U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Relevant degree and experience in pharmaceutical or biotech sciences.
8 or more years of experience in patent prosecution and drafting patent applications in the pharmaceutical and/or biotech area.
Mix of law firm and in-house experience preferred.
Proven written and verbal communication skills with an emphasis on successfully drafting arguments in complex prosecution.
Broad range of intellectual property experience, including IP transactional work.
Demonstrated ability to formulate and implement successful and complex portfolio-wide prosecution strategies.
Ability to manage and counsel clients and interact with researchers at a scientific level.
Writing samples required.
