Intermodal Logistics Representative (MN)
The Intermodal Logistics Representative role is a facet of the Intermodal service function that interacts with customers and carriers to ensure delivery of excellent service through fast and accurate response to inquiries, communication, and for ensuring that scheduled shipments are accurately and completely documented in our shipment tracking systems. Primarily, the Intermodal Logistics Representative will assist with verifying shipment details including necessary pickup and delivery schedules as well as verifying completion of each step in the shipment's lifecycle. In addition, they will handle any issue that may arise during transit of the freight and obtaining necessary documentation from carriers and customers. The Intermodal Logistics Representative may assume additional tasks that will enhance service to our customers. The Representatives will communicate with customers through a variety of means: by telephone, e-mail, postal mail correspondence, or fax.
Receive customer dispatches to create orders in the system with all pertinent information for that particular shipment which will include all customer reference numbers, proper pick up and delivery dates, and other information that is vital to making the shipment successful.
Issue instructions to carriers for transportation of dispatched loads that includes reserving equipment, communicating pick up and delivery information, and other pertinent shipment information. This will also include following up with carriers to confirm shipments are picked up and delivered in a timely manner.
Track and trace in-transit shipments, investigate and resolve in-transit issues when they arise, and inform appropriate employees in a timely manner. This will consist of looking at EDI tracing records, using the railroads websites, and calling the railroads and draymen to get updated status on the shipments. When issues arise that will impact the customer, all parties that are affected will need to be identified immediately.
Choose proper routing of shipments while maintaining and utilizing current knowledge of carrier capabilities. This will include choosing drayman that have the ability to make the pick ups and deliveries on the dates requested and choosing the railroad with the most efficient routing. This all will be done while staying at or below a certain dollar amount.
High School Diploma or equivalent required; College degree preferred
At least one year general customer service experience required. Previous experience within the logistics industry preferred.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong ability to communicate effectively via telephone and email
Strong time management and organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task
Effective PC skills including working knowledge of MS Office Programs
Ability to work in a fast paced environment under pressure
Freight / transportation industry experience helpful
Ability to use phone and computer for 6 to 8 hours per day
