Precision Therapeutics, Inc. (Precision), a life-science company located in Pittsburgh, PA, is committed to improving outcomes of cancer patients. Known for their expertise in the science of individualizing cancer therapy through the use of a proprietary and unique live-tissue platform, Precision develops novel markers to help guide treatment decisions based on the biological processes of each individuals cancer.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Precision is seeking a highly motivated person to fill an Infrastructure Engineer position. Successful candidates will join a talented team of technology and biology professionals who support and develop hardware and software systems that customize cancer therapy treatment on an individualized patient basis. The successful candidate must be highly organized, detail oriented, versatile, and an excellent communicator.
The position will be part of the information technology (IT) team and will be responsible for supporting an end user base that is geographically dispersed. Key functions of the position will include:
- Performs network, server and telephone system troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose common system problems.
- Installs, upgrades, and configures network printing, directory structures, rights, security, and software on file servers.
- Provides users with network technical and application support.
- Responds to the needs and questions of users concerning their access of resources on the network.
- Establishes network users, user environment, directories, and security for networks being installed.
- Analyzes information to determine, recommend, and plan layout for type of computers and peripheral equipment, or modifications to existing equipment and systems that will provide capability for proposed project or work load, efficient operation, and effective use of allotted space.
- Enters data into computer terminal to store, retrieve, and manipulate data for analysis of system capabilities and requirements.
- Inspects premises to ascertain space available for installation of equipment and to determine type and quantity of designated equipment that can be installed.
- Prepares Network diagrams.
- Perform maintenance and installations in satellite offices.
- Specifies power supply, data cable, and telephone cable requirements and configuration.
- Recommends purchase of equipment
- Orders equipment, prepares installation specifications, and monitors progress of installation to ensure facilities are ready on specified date.
- Trains users to use new or modified hardware and software.
- Monitors functioning of equipment to ensure system operate in conformance with specifications.
- Compiles information from periodicals, catalogs, and other sources to keep informed on technology trends.
- Confers with vendors and analyzes vendor's operations to determine factors that affect prices.
- Evaluates findings and makes recommendations to purchasing personnel regarding feasibility of buying needed products.
- Recommends use of alternative parts, materials, or manufacturing methods to reduce costs.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Network administration of a 100 - 500 user network with both wireless and WAN users (Cisco experience required)
- EMC SAN administration
- Sound knowledge of VMWare installation and administration
- Experience with network and system monitoring and reporting tools
- Experience with network services (DHCP, DNS, LDAP, IPSec, SNMP, SSH)
- Hands on experience with engineering security solutions, including firewall, IDS, IPS
- Microsoft Active Directory administration
- Microsoft Exchange Server administration
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Project, PowerPoint, Access)
- Familiarity with Powershell and VB scripting
- Familiarity with Oracle 10g database maintenance and administration
- Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server maintenance and administration
- Knowledge of SQL
- Tomcat and Jakarta configurations
- Familiarity with HIPAA privacy and security regulated IT environments

Education and Experience
Bachelors degree preferred; or seven to ten years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
