IT Support Technician

Reporting to the Director of IT or IT Helpdesk Manager, the successful candidate will be part of the IT infrastructure team, assisting staff with technical support of desktop computers, applications, mobile devices and related technology. Support includes responding to service requests for the specification, installation, and testing of computer systems and peripherals within established standards and guidelines. Activities require interaction with application software and operating systems to diagnose and resolve unique, non-recurring problems. The position utilizes one-on-one consultancy to end users and IT staff. The employee in this position also assists in the maintenance and testing of network servers and associated equipment. The position's responsibilities require independent analyses, communication and problem solving. Work is performed with moderate supervision and requires initiative and judgment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide day to day IT support to local and remote offices (PC setup/repair, systems configuration and deployment, file/print/fax/email servers support)
- Assists staff with the installation, configuration, and ongoing usability of desktop computers, peripheral equipment and software within established standards and guidelines
- Assists in maintaining systems and server backup processes
- Racks equipment and cabling at hosting site
- Works with vendor support contacts to resolve technical problems with desktop computing equipment and software.
- Maintenance of user accounts (AD, LDAP and Oracle)
- Interact with numerous computer platforms in a multi-layered client server environment
- Recommends and / or performs upgrades on systems to ensure longevity
- Assesses functional needs to determine specifications for purchases.
- Orders computer supplies. Assists in maintaining LAN/WAN records and, as appropriate, telephone systems.
Skills and Requirements:
- 5+ years in a Desktop/helpdesk support role.
- Strong knowledge of Windows 7, XP, Windows server, Linux and MAC OS, Radius and LDAP
- Strong knowledge of MS Exchange/Outlook
- Comprehension and experience with Linux Operating Systems
- Knowledge and familiar with BlackBerry Enterprise Server and devices
- Knowledge of TCP/IP and various Internet services (DNS, NAT, IPSec, HTTP/HTTPS, SSH, SNMP, NFS)
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work/learn as part of a team
- Experience working in a challenging and fast paced environment, must work well under sustained pressure, be self motivated with a strong sense of ownership, can-do attitude, urgency and drive
- Ability to work on tasks, and projects with minimum supervision
