Smarthinking, a Pearson service unit, is hiring motivated individuals to serve as part-time online IT tutors. Pearson?s Smarthinking service includes real-time, online tutoring and learning support to colleges, universities, high schools and individuals.
We are always reexamining the way people learn best, whether it?s one child in our own backyard or an education community across the globe. At Pearson and within Smarthinking, we work to facilitate a culture of professional reflection and consistent quality among our teams of tutors.
Responsibilities include tutoring and assisting in the training and mentoring of new tutors. Candidates can work from anywhere they have computer and high-speed Internet access. To qualify, candidates should have at least a teaching certificate, an advanced degree in IT or CS and/or MOS certification for Office 2007 or above. Candidates can choose to work 9 to 19 hours per week.
The ideal candidate will have:
Extensive college teaching/tutoring experience in IT & CS courses.
Experience with MyITLab.
MOS master certification for Office 2007 &/or 2010.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to troubleshoot problems calmly in potentially stressful situations.
Strong typing skills.
Tutors typically work 12 to 19 hours per week on a set schedule each semester and during the summer, and they may work from anywhere they have high-speed Internet access.
The ideal candidate will have experience in a majority of qualifications listed above, as well as: working in an online environment; working independently; significant college-level teaching/tutoring experience in the relevant areas; consistent availability.

If hired, tutors must be able to provide documentation regarding eligibility to work in the United States (I9 form verified by US notary) and have access to his/her own computer and internet access.
