Japanese Translation Project Manager Etsy
THIS JOB HAS EXPIRED Etsy's vibrant community of sellers and buyers has volunteered to help translate Etsy into Japanese! We are seeking a Project Manager to help guide this group of volunteers through the process of translating Etsy into Japanese. From developing the basic glossary and tone of the site to putting the finishing touches on our QA process, the Translation Project Manager will be the primary driver of bringing Etsy into the Japanese language.
This is a project-based, contract role that will last 4-6 months and can be carried out either from Japan or Etsy's Brooklyn headquarters.
About the Position
In this role you will:
Lead, organize, and inspire the volunteers to ensure comprehensive translation of all site materials. This includes identifying work to be done, matching people to projects, and helping to maintain focus for the group, as well as being available to answer questions and concerns as they arise from the group.
Translate key content, and review all translated material to ensure brand standards and consistency. Solicit opinions and conduct research on key issues surrounding language and translation to Japanese, including both tone as well as word choice. Make clear, informed decisions about those questions and communicate those transparently to internal stakeholders as well as to the volunteers.
Partner closely with other Etsy translation and localization team members on best practices, development of tone and glossaries, and on delivery timelines.
The ideal candidate for this role will be:
A native Japanese speaker who has spent 3 or more years living in Japan as an adult.
Specifically experienced with English to Japanese translation projects, as well as having 4+ years combined experience either as a professional translator or as a Project Manager.
Experienced in leading groups of people with different interests towards a common goal.
Comfortable with technology, including a working understanding of HTML, and comfortable spending hours at a time interacting with people online.
Genuinely interested in the handmade and/or vintage space.
