Java Solutions Architect EPAM Systems
Common information:We are looking for an experienced Java Solutions Architect ? very senior technical consultant who is a critical resource when scoping, designing, and ultimately delivering a complex technical solution; a technology expert well versed in full stack modern Java technologies with great interpersonal skills, analytical mind, get things done attitude, and passion for engineering excellence.
Solutions Architect is ultimately responsible for designing a technical solution that can be implemented successfully at the customer site and that meets the customer?s business needs. To accomplish this role, the Solutions Architect must have a clear understanding of the capabilities of various technologies and the risks of implementing them. This person must also be comfortable translating technical capabilities to meet business needs. Responsibilities of a Solution Architect don?t end here. Solutions Architects define and drive technology roadmaps, define and implement best architecture and engineering practices, mentor and guide various implementation teams, actively participate in software development communities (internal and external), play critical role in the pre-sales process.
The ideal candidate will be based in one of the following areas: New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Toronto, Boston, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles. Working remotely is also an available option but will assume travel up to 50%.
Responsibilities:
Kick-off new projects and drive initial discovery phase working onsite with EPAM project management and client?s business and technology teams
Understand business requirements and propose technical architectures to successfully implement them. Present options and weigh implementation complexities and risks to make the right technical decision
Define and document solution architecture and translate proposed solution to the client?s business team and to the EPAM?s implementation teams
Work with the implementation team on the daily basis providing technical guidance, reviewing work packages, ensuring successful delivery
Work with the client teams on the daily basis clarifying questions, tailoring and fine tuning proposed architectures, troubleshooting and solving unexpected issues, proactively working with technical risks (prototyping, proof of concepts)
Review technical decisions of other teams and guide them towards the best option using personal experience, industry knowledge, and best practices
As principal technical expert, work with the sales team on RFIs and RFPs suggesting solutions to stated clients? problems
Must have experience:
10+ years overall experience in professional software engineering
5+ years hands-on experience with various Java technologies and frameworks (Spring, Hibernate, MVC frameworks, Java EE stack, concurrency, JMS, JMX, SOAP, REST)
5+ years in the architect and/or lead engineer role building and delivering business solutions (e.g. in Banking, Travel, Finance, Healthcare, Information industries)
Experience with and good understanding of distributed systems and frameworks (e.g. Oracle Coherence, Terracotta, Hazelcast)
Experience with and understanding of cloud IaaS and PaaS technologies (AWS, Rackspace, Heroku, Google App Engine)
Experience with and good understanding of ?traditional? enterprise architectures (RDBMS, Application Servers, SOAP) and enterprise integration patterns
Good practical knowledge of RDBMS solutions (e.g. Oracle, MSSQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL)
Experience with and good understanding of open service oriented architectures (REST, HTTP)
Good understanding of various NoSQL offerings and where it fits (e.g. Cassandra, MongoDB, Redis)
Exposure to Big Data problems and tools is a big plus
Exposure to different JVM languages beyond Java (e.g. Scala, Clojure, Groovy) is a big plus
Practical knowledge and experience with client-site technologies (HTML5, CSS3, Javascript MVC) is a big plus
Exposure to and understanding of mobile architectures (web, native, mix) is a big plus
