Jr. Systems Administrator - Intern Minerva Networks

Headquartered in Alviso, CA, Minerva Networks is a privately owned networking infrastructure company developing innovative end-to-end broadband IP television solutions in the telecommunication and enterprise markets.
The successful candidate will join Minervas IT Operations Team assisting senior IT members in ensuring the stability, reliability, and expansion of internal corporate LAN and WAN networks, infrastructure services, and desktop helpdesk.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in helpdesk requests through our internal ticket tracker.
Assist in the implementation of IT services as guided by senior IT staff.
Assist in tracking log alerts to allow for preventative maintenance.
Assist in maintaining servers, workstations, network configurations, and other electronic communication devices in a mid-sized enterprise network.
Maintain backup tape library and administrate tape rotations.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of on-site server room.
Support and enforce company information policies and procedures.
Assist in maintaining network applications and services (DNS, WINS, AD, Wiki, RDS, Terminal Srvs, Linux, CUPS, Samba and Windows CIFS, network storage, ERP) as a frontline technician.
Required Knowledge:
0-2 years of IT experience in a directed environment.
First-hand experience with GNU/Linux operating systems, or other enterprise class UNIX-like systems integrated into a central directory, either via command line or web-based control management tools.
First-hand experience with Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and greater in an Active Directory environment. Interoperate with GNU/Linux systems a plus.
Exposure to Cisco layer two and layer three networking equipment both with LAN and WAN technologies.
Desktop knowledge of Microsoft Windows client OS (Both XP Professional and 7 Professional.)
Apple Macintosh OS X use or admin experience a plus.
Rudimentary knowledge of LDAP, DNS, SSH, Apache HTTPd, SNMP, scripting (UNIX shell or Perl), Windows Scripting Host a plus, SMTP, Kerberos v5, and virtualization.
Required Skills & Abilities:
Prepared to work in a heterogeneous network and server environment (a mix of Windows and GNU/Linux) and be able to provide hands-on support of technologies when necessary
Communications skills (written and verbal)
A can-do attitude with a willingness to sometimes think outside the box.
Required Professional Designation/Certification:
Working towards a four year BS in Computer Science or Information Systems
CCNA, MCSE, RHCSA or RHCE, LPI, Net+ or A+ certifications a plus
Required Experience:
Understanding of systems troubleshooting and performance monitoring, tape backup and restore procedures, and log analysis.
1-2 years of Microsoft Windows Server and GNU/Linux operating system administration experience (either RedHat or SuSE Linux).
1-2 years of assisting in network administration with Cisco layer 2 and layer 3 switching equipment.
