Junior Database Engineer Cogo Labs

Cogo Labs, the technology-driven incubator of some of Boston's fastest growing web companies, is seeking a Junior Database Engineer for our Data Center team. The Data Center team is responsible for the maintenance and development of some of the largest MySQL database instances in the world.

We're looking for a Computer Scientist who has experience with SQL and relational databases, a performance-driven attitude towards database development, a strong Computer Science background, and a continuing desire to learn and grow as a developer.

Responsibilities:

- Support and maintain large (multi-terabyte) MySQL production databases containing critical business data.
- Administer and support existing db systems, working to optimize performance, stability, and uptime.
- Write and maintain Python scripts for monitoring, capacity planning, backups, and recovery.
- Collaborate with the Engineering and IT teams to define requirements and implement new db systems to meet the growing needs of the business.
- Assist in on-call efforts to maintain db uptime as needed.

Requirements:

- Bachelors or advanced degree in Computer Science.
- Experience writing SQL for a relational database such as MySQL, Oracle, DB2 or PostgreSQL.
Strong Linux skills.
- Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language (C, C++, Java, Python, Ruby, etc.).
