Project Leadership Associates (PLA) is currently seeking a Junior Desktop Administrator to help us provide IT support to our many small business clients in the Greater Boston area. Any person with experience on a help desk (especially working for a managed services provider), or any person that has recently graduated from college or technical school with a degree systems administration should apply.
This technical position will be primarily responsible for assisting small to mid-size businesses with all aspects of their IT infrastructure, including laptops, desktops, servers, networking equipment, smart phones, applications, and more. You will be exposed to a wide range of technologies across a wide range of IT environments, working side-by-side with a team of the best and brightest IT systems administrators in the industry so there is no better to place to quickly learn new skills. The Jr. Desktop Administrator will be part of a collaborative team that provides technical support to our small / medium business clients. Essential responsibilities include answering help desk phone calls, assisting with incidents submitted by our web-based ticket portal, and completing small IT projects such as deploying new laptops for users and transferring their data, imaging laptops, racking new servers, and shadowing more experienced team members as they complete more complicated projects. The position will require you to understand the problem the user is calling about, provide analysis based on asking follow-up questions and diagnosing the issue remotely, and ultimately resolve the issue either by yourself or with the help of your team.
Outstanding customer service skills. Must be eager to help clients with their technical issues and eager to be a help in any way to the team.
Top-notch communications skills. Must be able to explain things clearly on the phone, write clear and helpful emails and ticket updates, and listen to users and understand their issues.
Ability to prioritize and juggle multiple open issues and not let things fall through the cracks.
Knowledge of the management and support of Windows 8/7/XP, Microsoft Office, and common productivity applications.
Knowledge of managing and supporting Mac OS systems and software.
Experience with remote management tools such as LogMeIn, Kaseya, and Remote Desktop.
Knowledge of networking concepts and protocols such as basic routing, Active Directory, DNS and DHCP.
Diagnosing laptop and desktop hardware issues
Creating and maintaining user self-help documentation, technical documentation and procedural documentation.
Knowledge of firewalls and network equipment such as routers and switches.
Knowledge of phone systems for moves/adds/changes/deletes
Desktop troubleshooting for laptops, desktops, Windows XP/7/8, Mac OS X, Microsoft Office, and common business applications.
Creating, modifying, and deleting user accounts in Active Directory, Exchange, common phone systems, and other business systems
Transferring data from one laptop to a new laptop
Checking and modifying file and folder permissions
Networking (highly desirable)
Setting up a firewall, configuring rules, site-to-site VPNs, etc. (Watchguard + SonicWall)
Solid understanding IP addressing and subnet masks
Solid understand of other basics like: DHCP, DNS,NAT
Experience with Kaseya (Highly Desirable), Hyper-V / VMWare, SQL Server and Mac
Minimum 2 year Degree specializing in System Administration
2 years in a help desk position would be highly desirable -- especially at a managed services provider
