The Laboratory Purchasing Specialist is responsible for purchasing of all routine reagents, supplies and equipment used in the laboratory. Responsibilities include:
Sets up purchase orders, standard or master, for purchasing of all reagents, supplies and equipment
Contacts vendors and verifies pricing
Constructs templates for purchase orders and obtains required signature(s)
Enters purchase orders into MAS 90
Submits PO either by email, phone or electronically and requests order confirmation
Ensures adequate inventory of all reagents and supplies is maintained to avoid disruption of testing
Ensures items are received, packing slips are verified for quantities received and matched to PO
Submits documentation to Accounting for receipt into MAS 90
Ensures documentation of lot numbers and expiration dates for all reagents is recorded and forwarded to lab supervisors
Receives inventory into MAS for orders placed by another department and forwards paperwork to Accounting
Analyzes costs and prepares reports as requested
Advises appropriate parties of identified supply issues immediately
Ensures all office equipment is maintained
Maintains files, hard copy & electronic as required
Responds to requests for urgent need for reagents or materials
Communicates with Sales Team and Vendors to spot potential laboratory advantages
Performs administrative duties as assigned
Performs other duties as assigned
Experience and Skills:
Bachelors degree preferred but not required
3-5 years experience in a purchasing role required. Previous lab experience preferred
Demonstrates strong organization and multi-tasking skills and ability to work with minimal supervision, interpret information and take necessary actions.
Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Able to sit at a desk and use computer for long periods of time (most of work day; 4-6 hours).
Occasionally able to lift/carry a minimum of 25 pounds; some standing and walking is required.
Must demonstrate strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
