Job Summary

nLIGHT is seeking a highly motivated, laser applications development engineer with experience in material science and laser material interactions. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise through product demonstrations and customer-specific process development in our Applications Lab in Vancouver. The candidate will also assist the sales staff in assessing potential applicability of company products to meet customer needs and preparing detailed application reports following the development and implementation of customer applications/solutions in the nLIGHT applications lab. The candidate will design and assemble laser-based experiments based on customer requirements to demonstrate feasibility of the application, often requiring rapid prototyping and/or product demo for clients. The candidate may provide follow-up support to company sales staff and customer personnel by disseminating technical information on specific applications. The successful candidate will contribute to a wide array of activities including:

• Test and characterization of existing products: assembling, test, and quality assurance, continuous improvement (measurements, processes, etc)
• Design of experiments
• Next generation products: test and characterization of next generation fiber lasers
• Technical knowledge of lasers and optical systems: beam delivery, laser material interaction and lasers (Pulsed and CW)
• Knowledge of LabView programming a plus
• Strong problem solving skills and communication skills
• Ability to work in multifunctional teams, strong collaboration skills

• Strong presentation skills and ability to develop materials/reports by using standard tools (such as MS office)

Qualifications

• MSc or BSc Degree in engineering/physics/optics/material science preferred
• Hands on experience with products involving solid state lasers
• Experience with both theoretical and laboratory work required

Preferred

• Engineering or R&D experience in a leading fiber optic or fiber laser related company preferred
• Technical knowledge of amorphouse and crystalline structures and their properties when exposed to pulsed and CW lasers
• 2-3 years experience in the laser industry
