SUMMARY:
The primary duty for this position is to take a major role in the initiation, management, and execution of
research and development projects. The goal is to innovate the design, implementation and applications of
optical fibers, fiber lasers/amplifiers, and solid state lasers, and to leverage and extend NP?s core
technologies. Identifying, securing, and successfully executing externally funded projects, either customer
driven or government funded, will be a major focus.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
? Carry out current projects in R&D labs based on hands-on experiments.
? Design of the technical approaches.
? Plan of the schedule and milestones to reach the goals.
? Preparation of reports and summaries of internal and external projects.
? Vendor choosing and purchase order preparation.
? Proposal generation, and publication and present activities according to best practices.
? Design and build engineering prototypes to demonstrate appropriate performance.
? Works with other functions of the company to communicate needs (budget, manpower,
instrumentation) and results (technical reviews, white papers, instructions and more).
? As a Laser/Optical engineer gives guidance to technicians on the team and directs their work
regarding the projects.
Other duties may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The candidate will have to work within a team of people spanning across different functions. Direct
supervision of others might be needed, but is not certain. Excellent communication skills across different
levels of skills and education are expected. Candidate must be comfortable with a high-pressure
environment, able to work with minimal supervision and be a quick self-starter.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
? PhD or equivalent experience in relevant subject (Laser Optics, Physics, EE, ME, ?)
? 5 yrs of related experience
? Currently eligible to work in the US
? Expert in CW and pulsed fiber lasers/amplifiers, solid state lasers, and/or laser frequency conversion.
? Expert in laser source design and development in UV, blue, Mid-IR, and/or Far-IR (THz) portions of
the spectrum.
? Excellent communication skills across all functions and levels of education
? Excellent documentation practices
? Self starter and hands-on lab skills
? Knowledge in fibers, laser and NLO crystals desired
? Fluent written and spoken English,
? Good understanding of electronics is a plus
? Knowledge of Zemax programming is a plus
