The Job
We are looking for experienced Laser Tracker Toolmakers to support our Tooling Operations during the 2nd shift (2 p.m. â€" 10:30 p.m.) at our Hawthorne, CA facility.
Responsibilities
- Lay out, fabricate, and assemble a variety of standard and nonstandard major jigs, fixtures, tool masters, master tooling gauges and related tooling involving compound angles and complex contours where the establishment and coordination to exacting tolerances of numerous tooling holes and reference points between several planes are required.
- Plan work to be performed and determine methods and sequence of operations working from tool design drawings or own designs.
- Sets up and operate optical instruments to check overall and detailed alignment, fit, or adjustment of assemblies
- Develop and design holding devices and jig and fixture details.
- Make complete layout, fabricate and builds all types of jigs and fixtures (including tool masters) involving compound angles and complex contours where the establishment and coordination to exacting tolerances of numerous tooling holes and reference points between several planes is required.
- Set up on surface table jigs and fixtures involving complex contours, compound angles and requiring the coordination of drill holes and location of critical points with reference to stations, butt and/or water lines.
- Suggest changes in design involving practicability, economy and process of manufacture to proper personnel.
- Make determinations regarding fabrication and design of detail parts such as fittings, stops, locating pins and mechanical operation of jigs and submits them for approval to proper personnel.
- Uses complex tool design drawings and complex engineering blueprints.
- Operates various types of machine shop equipment to complete assignment as required.
- Experience and proficiency using any CAD/CAM software.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience with a Laser Tracker; Preferably 10-15 years.
- Verisurf v9 & v10 experience.
- Excellent skills in performing inspection of tooling, details and sub-assemblies using Dimensional Control Equipment.
- Specific equipment to include: Leica Laser Trackers, all bench inspection equipment.
- Experience and proficiency using any CAD/CAM software.
- Skill in reading complex blueprints including: Ability to identify and understand specifications, knowledgeable in geometric tolerance (understand and recognize all symbols), thorough understanding of general tolerances and GD&T, and ability to comprehend sections and views.
- Understand reference systems & how to create them.
- Ability to understand purpose and functionality of component being inspected.
- Understanding of electronic file management system
- Organizational skills.
- Self-direction and capable of working with minimal supervision.
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Must be available to work 1st or 2nd shift hours, and overtime, as necessary.
