Does the idea of being the design leader on a small focused product team sound sweet to you? How about having your work seen by millions of viewers on our sites www.theverge.com and www.sbnation.com? Vox Media is looking for a Lead Designer for our Product Team. We need help solving complex design problems in the digital media space. We need your fresh ideas and skills to continue innovating the technology and the processes that make Vox Media products powerful and popular.
We take design seriously. We need focused, experienced creative visionary problem-solvers who push to build beautiful, intuitive products.
The Lead Designer makes things, and will drive design on projects for their small team. Work will include conducting conceptual exploration, establishing direction and design solutions, and ensuring successful implementation of that direction through development. The Lead Designer will engage with the Directors of User Experience and Design on a strategic level; brainstorming, sketching, and verbalizing ideas and strategic directions prior to execution.
On a day to day basis, the Lead Designer will work with the Product Owner and Dev Lead within their small team to ensure successful products are launched. This is a hands-on role, from the whiteboard, to mock ups, to code - you will be involved in every step of the process. Lead designers will also review the work of the other designers on the team and provide constructive feedback. Dry-erase markers, OmniGraffle, Photoshop, and TextMate are the weapons you will use to done tasks yourself, and to set an example for others.
Whether working with Product Team members or an external agency, it?s your responsibility to make sure that their visual design/user experience is in-line with our conventions.
You possess:
Excellent concept development and graphic design ability for web and mobile.
Excellent understanding of the online media landscape.
Excellent working experience with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and optimization for web.
Excellent understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and the capabilities of web browsers and user interaction.
Excellent in creating and working with site maps, user flows, wireframes, and other information design documents.
Excellent understanding of composition, color, imagery, typography.
Experience with user testing and rapid prototyping
Experience with seeing a project from inception through completion
Solid experience creating Web graphics, animations, user interfaces, icons, style sheets, color schemes, templates and layouts for use in projects, ensuring site- wide color and typeface standards and consistency.
Ability to work within an agile framework.
Ability to direct other designers when necessary
The skills and passion to get your hands dirty, make things, and own them.
About working at Vox Media: This is a permanent, full-time position with benefits based in Washington, DC (though we'll consider outstanding remote candidates).
