We are seeking a skilled Lead Engineer for our highest visibility product: Project Airwolf. This project will build on the Knewton platform, extending industry-leading tools to individual instructors, providing them with tools to build their own adaptive learning experiences.
In this position, you?ll be coding Knewton?s premier educational application, a project that enables teachers and students ? anyone, in fact ? to build free, adaptive courses in the world?s first out-of-the-box adaptive learning environment. The Lead Engineer for Project Airwolf will lead this effort, beginning with the hiring of a dedicated team of engineers.
Run Project Airwolf from a technical and project management perspective. Using requirements, work with product management to flesh out timelines and deliverables. Take those requirements, envision a system to satisfy those requirements, architect it and properly delegate building that system to team members, lead scoping exercises, and enforce technical integrity and standards within the team.
5+ years in large-scale (1,000,000+ users) product development (building web applications)
2+ years leading a team of back-end Engineers and front-end Engineers
Excellent systems design sense
3+ years working in an enterprise java stack
Expert in back-end (java/python/etc) development or front-end (html/js/css) development (if both, you?d be an ideal candidate)
Good product development sense and experience working on teams with product managers, designers, marketing, and business development
